'wheel vs. Controller - Next Generation

I have both systems and I love racing games, but I like using a nice wheel setup. I don't want to own two wheels, so I need to choose a system to play my racing games. I like more sim-style racing games.

It will probably once again come down to preference between Gran Turismo and Forza again, seeing how Project CARS is on both systems. Driveclub is the wildcard for me as I've heard mixed reviews.

I'm curious as to what you guys are using (controller or wheel) for both Forza 5, Forza Horizon 2, and Driveclub and why. I tried the Forza Horizon 2 demo and that just seemed like a controller / arcade-type game.

I like the controller better. Usually with a wheel you gotta have the room or a stand to really use. Also with the wheel you either gotta hang on to later resale isn't very good on wheels. I never get use to the shifting as I'm a shifting kind of guy in racing games.

I use a G27 but I only have space to set it up in front of my PC.

Depends on the game. Sometimes I just want to chill out and drive on the pad. It helps that I'm better on the pad than wheel.

My wheel is usually used just for iRacing. I tried F1 2013-14 with it but the game feels overly difficult that way.

I plan on getting a wheel for use on the Xbox One and the PC. Especially for Forza 5 and Horizon 2. Maybe in the next month or so.

I use one with my XBox One right now, but I'm going around the block to do it. I have a Fanatec GT2 wheel which I absolutely love for PC, PS3, and XBox 360 racing games. I had to buy a CronusMax controller adapter to use it with my XB1, and eventually my PS4 when a racing game I want finally comes out for it. The CronusMax allows me to use the Fanatec GT2 with the XB1 and Forza 5 and Forza Horizon 2, but it's not truly fully emulating an XB1 wheel.

The CronusMax sees the GT2 as a thumbstick controller rather than a steering wheel. Theforefore, it has no force-feedback (other than rumble and the GT2's own self-centering spring force) and it's not linear. There's no way to tweak it to where it really feels natural. I'm only slightly better with it than I am with a thumbstick controller, but that's only because I flat out suck at racing games with a thumbstick controller.

CronusMax is coming out with a new controller adapter this December, which they'll call the CM2. It will reportedly allow full emulation of XB1 and PS4 steering wheels, with full force-feedback effects by current gen Logitech and Fanatec steering wheels. I strongly suggest waiting for it. I don't have a choice since I don't have room in my game room for two steering wheels to be set up.

Do you think this wheel will compare to the upper-end Thrusmaster wheels?

I paid $49.99 for the ChronusMax (first edition) and I'm pretty sure the CM2 will come in at that price. Right now I'm getting plenty of use out of the CM with the PS4 version of The Golf Club. It allows me to use my XB1 controller with the PS4, and the XB1's design is better suited for my left thumb with its higher on the controller construction. I have much better feel with the swing from the angle it sets up between my thumb and the stick.
