It is about an hour before the east coast malls open and Thunder will be up on the shelves. It may be a lot to ask, but if anyone gets the game today and can peel themselves away for a minute or two, please put your impressions of the game here! Thanks!Tags: None -

I was wondering if anybody got it yet. I want to hear what it's like. I guess I will find out tomorrow when I get it. -

It doesn't seem to drive a lot different than last year's version, which is somewhat of a disappointment. I think it drives a *tad* better, but not much. The car seems to arbitrarily get loose on its own, and the brakes don't have the proper effect that they should.
That being said, I'm still playing quite a bit of it because of the depth of the financial model in the career mode. Hiring and firing team members is one thing, but R&D'ing your engines and building entire stables of cars by mixing and matching chassis and engine components is pretty damn fun. I've actually managed to build my superspeedway, speedway, and short track cars in the first season. As I hire better engine builders, I swap out engines or sell the old ones, it's pretty fun actually...more fun than the actual driving.
The one thing that seems to be helping is the "Thunder License" mode, where you get to do lap after lap on easy, vet, and legend skill levels (easy all assists on, vet just stability, legend none), and after completing some tracks on legend, I absolutely raped the cpu there next time out, and the car seemed to be a bit more controllable (simply because I had turned some laps and knew what to expect).
It certainly won't make anybody forget about Nascar 2002 by Papyrus, but it's not quite the dog it was last year...after I get many more laps under my belt for the "official" OS review, I'll chime back in again.Comment

I gave it an 82 myself, it's not a bad game if you take it for what it is.
It's an incredibly deep arcade racer, which is exactly what it tries to be. It won't fool anybody for a hardcore sim, but it's fun nonetheless.Comment
