    Re: F1 2016 Career Mode Progression (XB1,PS4,CPU)

I think I'm going to have to step up the difficulty level a bit more as I get more comfortable.

Montreal was up last night. I've always smoked that track. I love it, I find it easy, for as long as they've been releasing F1 games, it's probably been my most raced track. Being Canadian, I just tend to gravitate towards it just because, and I love that it's a fast track, lots of fast sweeping left/right turns, good area's for passing. I just love to race it, I could probably run it with my eyes closed.

Smoked all the practice programs in purple in no time.

Qualifying was done in light rain on intermediates. I took P1, but barely.

Race day... started in the rain on the intermediates. I got a horrible start. I actually slid and fishtailed bigtime coming out of the initial set of turns. It was a miracle nobody hit me, and I hit nothing. It was an intense feeling. That dropped me back to 4th only, which was also surprising to me. By I think the second lap, I was back out front. As I said, Montreal is the one track that my car is almost always stuck to the racing line, which of course makes rain driving much, much easier. It was another 25% race, so 18 laps. By lap 8, the rain had stopped. At lap 10, I pitted, swapped the inters for, whatever the reds are. At that point, I just pulled away from the field by about half a second or more a lap for an easy victory.

Presently I lead the drivers points by 14 I think. So I'm trying to decide right now, whether I up the AI difficulty, or take traction control off medium, and drop it to none for the rest of the season. I'll probably run one more race first since I don't want to completely over react to smoking the field at was is easily my best track.

I would turn off traction control before upping the difficulty if I was you. I ran with medium TC my first few races but after finishing 2nd twice I decided to turn off TC entirely. It slows you down a good amount because you have to be SO EASY on the throttle coming out of corners, it's very challenging. I haven't had a finish higher than 5th in 4 races since I made the switch (I'm on Hard difficulty btw).

        Re: F1 2016 Career Mode Progression (XB1,PS4,CPU)

I took the pole position position at Shanghai and was feeling really good about my chances going in. My strategy was push my softs later than recommended and then finish out out the super softs. After about 4 or 5 laps in I realized that wasn't going to work out because I was going way too hard on them. I eventually pitted on lap 7 and found myself in 7th place coming out.

For the next few laps I made up some good ground on the Super Softs and worked my way back up to 4th. However, on lap 10 I realized that I wasn't gaining any more ground on the guys ahead of me and the tires were wearing down again. On lap 12, I pitted and came out in 6th. With no need to worry about tire wear at that point, I want balls to the wall trying to catch people. With a couple of turns left, I passed Kiko and worked my way to 3rd place. I held him off down the final stretch and took my first podium of the season.

It wasn't a win, but it was a fun race and I was happy with my performance. I was the only one who pitted twice and in this one it worked out well for me. On to the next one.

          Re: F1 2016 Career Mode Progression (XB1,PS4,CPU)

I have a pretty smart team, and they know better than I do when they say over the comm they have a new strategy, want to change to that? I say YES!

A good example was Austria. Start race on the purple Ultrasofts, there's a caution and Safety Car for about four laps immediately, and then it starts raining lightly. The crew suggested a strategy change, I took it and pitted where they put me on the yellow Softs and sent me back out, and most people were still on the Supersofts or Ultras and I was doing better on traction.

Finally, it starts to rain a bit more and they suggest another strategy change, so I come in again and they switch green Intermediates and I go back out and beat the field while they make their changes to those tires.

That was a one-stop scheduled race, but the dynamic weather really made it a hoot with the extra stops. Last time I chose not to listen to the team, I ran outta gas LOL.

            Re: F1 2016 Career Mode Progression (XB1,PS4,CPU)

Ok since the patch I have decided to start a new career.

I chose Manor Racing, more that I feel like the car suites me as well as the team. I feel like a true rookie with this game and a lot of tracks in this game I have never even set runner to. So on to Australia

Did ok in practice. Seemed a little hot out and I could not get the car dialed in. Best time I could manage was in the low 1:35 ragion. Purpled the acclimation and tire wire tests but only Greened the qualifying run.

Then came Q1! Base setup on super soft tires and only enough fuel to get about 5 laps in. Left out of the pit and set the fuel to rich and dug in. Used the first out lap to just warm up tires and brakes and get comfortable. Next lap it was on. Man I had the squirrelly little monster dialed in. I flew around that track like I was a slot car, practice does help I guess, ended up getting a....wait for it....... 1:33.124! WTH! Good enough to put me in 5th after Q1.

I know I am probably not going to stay there, but what a run. I will say when you have a car dialed in, there is nothing like that feeling of flying around the track without a care in the world. Just tapping brakes, hitting the apex and back on the throttle and off you go.

I am on PS4 with all assists turned off and using a controller. AI right now is set to Medium. I will run two races, maybe 3 and re evaluate the setting. I think this time is the result of spending so much time at this track since the launch of the game. If this trend continues I will certainly go up to hard, if not higher.

            Now on to Q2............

Which had me just a little slower, but still fast enough to get into Q3.

Which did not go well at all. Out lap and everything was looking good until righ around turn 11. I put just a little to much of my tire on the curb and got loose, brought it around by lifting of a smidge and then upset the car more by bouncing the right side on the curb of 12. Started fishtailing and just almost caught it back, when the left rear hit grass and that was it. Straight across the track and smack! right into the barrier. Session Over!

So I am in 10th for the race and I have a horrible feeling that I have out qualified my car. Time will tell. If I have, well, I will just run my race and try to survive. If I really feel outclassed I wont be aggressive at all. I will let the front pack go and then get defensive of my position right around P15 or so. Going to go with a 1 stop with SS then switch to Med. I don't think I will change from that even if something does happen on the course. If I am not competitive then I think my only chance to hold at mid point is staying out and playing the tire wear and save fuel routine for a long run.

You're the man! Kudos to running no assists, I still am using lowest traction control for now.

Plan on starting my career later today, going for the true to life Red Bull program, starting at Toro Rosso and working my way up. Driving with no assists and I'm going to give the ultimate AI a shot, hopefully I can get into a Red Bull seat in 2 seasons.

Either that or I'll try to replicate Villeneuve by starting at Williams and winning the title in 2 seasons, and then destroy my career right after by going to some garbage team.

                  Re: F1 2016 Career Mode Progression (XB1,PS4,CPU)

Just got started last night, picked the Toro Rosso with Sainz as my teammate on ultimate AI doing 50% races with no assists. Practice was unusual, as the Toro Rosso obviously handles quite differently to the online "equal" cars so I was finding I didn't have much grip. After playing around with the setup I was still struggling, failing both the tire test and qualifying pace test, but managed to score full points on the track acclimatization.

Onto qualifying, where I had 3 sets of super softs available and 1 reserved for Q3. I wasn't sure what to expect, as Sainz had been 6 tenths quicker than me in practice. After my first run in Q1 I was sitting on the bubble in P15 so I went out for another lap and was held up quite a bit by the AI, but managed to improve to stay P15 and escape Q1. In Q2 I started with a used set of super soft tires and after the first run Carlos was P15 and I was P16. Thankfully I put in an absolutely beautiful lap at the end of the session, setting a 1:26.3 to pull off P9 in Q2. Q3 was just an added bonus, and with just 1 fresh set of tires remaining I again started on a used set and set a slow banker lap putting me last. Once I put on my last set of fresh super softs I was hoping to move up to 8th, but my lap was sloppy and I finished 10th, less than half a tenth off of P9 which was my objective for the session.

Once I got to the race I was surprised to see myself starting back in 20th place, as I guess I had picked up a couple of grid drops in free practice which pretty much ruined all the hard work I did in qualifying. Unfortunately the race didn't go well. The first few laps I had good pace and was able to get up to 12th, but after that the used super softs I had on started to go off and I went to pit on L6 for mediums. I wasn't paying attention on the way into the pits and that ruined my race as I picked up a drive through. The rest of the race was spent trying to catch up to the other drivers but they always had either a softer compound on or much fresher mediums. Around L18 I broke part of my front wing and decided to pit, but I made the wrong decision as I put on super softs as I was holding out hope for a late safety car to get me back into the race. It never came and I pit again in the closing stages to get a set of tires that would go to the end. I ended up finishing P19, but last of the runners just a few seconds behind my teammate and a lap down.

So I ran the Australian race last night. Just as I figured I had over qualified my car.

The race was not a complete waste in the beginning, notice I said in the beginning, as I stuck to my guns and my race plan. I let the first pack of stronger cars go and settled in at P12 where I could be competitive. Made it thru my pitstop and was solidly running in 10th.

Then Magnussen who was a LAP DOWN! clipped my back end as I passed lapped him and sent me spinning down the track at 200 mph. I actually got dizzy in real life I was spinning so fast. Totally destroyed my tires and I clipped a barrier coming to a stop that took off my front wing.

Ended the race in dead last as all of that happend with 4 laps left to go.

What a day. Well on to race number 2 of the season and Magnussen better be looking over his shoulder.

                      Re: F1 2016 Career Mode Progression (XB1,PS4,CPU)

Just finished round 2 around Bahrain which was much more successful than Australia. In practice Sainz absolutely destroyed me, at the end of FP3 he was something like 1.5 seconds faster than me and I was worried it was going to be a long race. I decided to make some last minute changes to the setup as I was struggling a lot with the car and it paid off. Quali went well, got through Q1 doing a single lap on the softs, however after my lap I wasn't paying attention and picked up a 5 place grid penalty as I was coasting back to the pits and blocked Rosberg. While I made it out of Q2, I was not very pleased as I had set my best lap on the 2nd lap on my super softs, when I put on a fresh set at the end of the session I went half a tenth slower, and was then stuck with my dead tires for the start of the race. Q3 went well, did 1 lap and managed 8th place between the two Williams, but with my grid drop I was starting 13th. Managed to out-qualify Sainz again so I was extremely happy, as he had been dominating me in practice and my standing in the team would have dropped to zero had he gotten through to Q3 instead of myself.

Race start was hectic. Managed to get up to 11th early with Sainz right behind me when we made contact on L3 when we both tried to overtake Button on the run down to T4. As a result I lost my front wing and suffered a puncture, and Sainz, Ericsson and Hulkenburg all retired in a pile up. After the safety car restart I picked my way through the lower half of the field and by the final stint I was in 11th place on used softs chasing down Wehrlein for the final point. Thankfully he was on old super softs and had to stop with 6 laps to go gifting me 10th place and my first point of the season.

Is there a way to see the full results from previous races? I can't find it so I'm worried there's nothing but the overall standings available.

                            Re: F1 2016 Career Mode Progression (XB1,PS4,CPU)

I have run into, or at least been made aware of, a few flaws in the Career mode.

#1 - R & D. There's a big focus on R&D and each week you gain points to put towards various upgrades. This is what allows you to take someone like Renault and give them performance to compete against someone like McLaren, or take McLaren and improve them to better compete with Ferrari. That sort of thing. At the same time, the AI teams are upgrading as well. It's all kid of neat, until you realize....

The R&D never resets. So within a couple of seasons, when your R&D is maxed out, the other teams can max out as well, leaving you in the exact relative position you started (in the case of McLaren, trailing Williams, RBR, Ferrari, Mercedes). There is, after a couple of seasons, no real point to the R&D, which is a big miss considering this is a 10-year career mode. It leaves you needing to join Ferrari or Mercedes if you want the best performing car.

What they need to do is reset the R&D every so often (call it "development cycle") and re-seed based on the rankings at the end of the development cycle. Whether that's every season, or every 2 seasons, I believe it would fix the issue and allow you to take a Renault and potentially, after many seasons, bring them to the top of the performance heap.

I just can't imagine they're able to make this big a change in a patch. Hopefully I'm wrong. On the official Codemaster forums, someone from CM mentioned it was being looked into as a problem, but not when or if they could fix it.

#2 - Rivalries. When you lose to your rival, he seems to remain your rival until you beat him. So if you draw a good driver with a great car, you might be screwed. I'm stuck battling Max Verstappen with my underpowered Renault. I would think they would have included a mercy rule at some point.

#3 - The presentation and commentary are very basic, and therefore very repetitive. There could be more variety to the podium ceremonies, the intros to each race, etc. It gets pretty stale pretty quick. It's a minor issue, but it doesn't compare well to the likes of more mainstream sports titles (NBA2K, I'm looking at you). Plus, as I suggested above, there are obvious missing data points, like the history of a race from the same season, and obviously therefore past seasons. If you want to know the running order for the Australian GP, I hope you wrote it down, because the game didn't save it. That seems like a miss.

With that said, I'm still very much enjoying the game.

After finishing 2nd at bahrain i turned the difficulty up to hard and it's been a better fit for me combined with turning any traction control off entirely.

I finished 5th at Sochi with my new settings and have qualified 4th for my upcoming Catalunya race. I almost got caught out by rain in Q1 in Spain, it was full wet at the beginning so I ran early and set a good lap that I thought would get me to Q2 easily. HOWEVER, when I got back to the garage I noticed I was down in 14th and on the verge of being bumped out of Q2! Well it turns out the rain was subsiding and everyone was setting quicker lap times on the Intermediate tire!!! So with 4 minutes left in Q1 I quickly put on a set of Inters and went back out. The pressure was ON as I only had time for 1 flying timed lap, luckily I put a good one together and set a top-5 time to get me through to Q2.

It's the moments like that, whether its a weather situation or race strategy or whatever, that make this game so enjoyable for me.
Are you able to change the AI difficulty during your career? I started off Easy (First F1 Game) and I want to increase the difficulty. How do I do that?

Yes. Absolutely. It is in the options menu. Under Race Settings, I think. You can do it at any time.
