I like to study from the back of the pack too.

Problem is that they are all out of sight.

Re: Project Cars 2 Review (PS4 Pro)

I set up a Quick Race for the Indy 500 last night. 50 laps, 31 AI opponents. Really wish you could add 32 since the 500 has 33 cars. First time playing this game and it's going to take some time to learn. My first practice was a disaster, but I'm getting better each time around.

I never finished after restarting about 5 times. It does not start like a true Indy 500 with a flying start. You get the rolling start, but most of the cars are driving really slow to start the race. I actually managed to get the hang of the controller to where I could weed my way through the super slow traffic. Unfortunately, the reason I never finished a race is because I kept getting rear ended once I made it up with the faster cars. It's probably because I'm slower through the corners. I was doing everything I could to avoid losing the car.

I think I will enjoy the challenge the more I get to play.

One gripe I've seen quite a bit is the sense of speed. I don't get that. I've only done the Indy 500, but when I am hammering down and pass a slow car, they are gone in a blink. You really get the sense of speed when passing.

        PS4 (Regular) -

I did some testing with the GT3s, GTEs and Touring Cars last night.

My controller is dialed in now! Hard to even think of using the Logitech wheel at this point since it has poor compatibility with PC2.

So far, I've raced at Daytona (road), Bathurst, Road America, Sonoma (GP) and Watkins (both). I have the AI at Skill level between 32-33 and Aggression 18. No Aids and only using 75% anti-lock breaks. Everything else is turned off.

I noticed that the key to not spinning out is to make sure you are not full-throttle when in the middle of the turns. I try to brake before the turn and let the car roll into it. (Easier said than done.)

Here are my settings for the PS4 controller:
        Steering Deadzone - 0
        Steering Sensitivity - 45
        Throttle Deadzone - 0
        Throttle Sensitivity - 10
        Brake Deadzone - 0
        Brake Sensitive - 10
Clutch Deadzone - up to you
Clutch Sensitivity - up to you
        Speed Sensitivity - 95
Damper Saturation - 100 (Default - It won't matter since it's only for wheels)
Controller Damping - 75 (Higher value is better if you tap steer in the corners, if you are really smooth, lower it. Net..net.. Impacts how quickly you can turn the wheel from left to right.)
Controller Vibration - 100 (up to you though)
Minimum Shift time - 0 (Default)
        RPM/Gear Display - Yes (Default)

Touring Cars at Road America - (Quick 4 laps with mandatory pit stop.)

Here are my current settings, and it's working great for me:

          Steering Deadzone - 0
          Steering Sensitivity - 25
          Throttle Deadzone - 0
          Throttle Sensitivity - 5
          Brake Deadzone - 0
          Brake Sensitive - 25
          Clutch Deadzone - 10
          Clutch Sensitivity - 25
          Speed Sensitivity - 100
          Damper Saturation - 100
          Controller Damping - 38
Controller Vibration - 100 (up to you though)
Minimum Shift time - 0 (Default)
          RPM/Gear Display - Yes (Default)

I got these settings off a YouTube video guy, and they've worked really good for me (I don't have a wheel).

I don't have the game, but that may not be as unrealistic as you think. The boxy aerodynamics of the current-gen IndyCar, especially the rear wheel guards, create a huge tow for trailing cars, and they rocket past using slingshot slipstream passing.

Oh I agree. That's what I was saying. Many out there are saying that you get no sense of speed on this game, but I absolutely did when I was racing my version of the Indy 500 last night. It was pretty awesome.

                Driver Swaps

Has anyone else tried driver swaps with the AI? I ran a 6 lap race at Laguna Seca w/ a mandatory pit stop to test it out.

Here's how you do it on a PS4 - first, ensure the controller is set to default button assignments.

                1. During the race, when are ready to pit...
                • Hit the Up arrow on the D-Pad and select Request Pit Stop

                2. Once you begin pitting...
                • Hit Up on the D-Pad arrow again, scroll down to the Race Strategy menu and select it.
                • Select Swap Driver from the menu and change it to On

The AI will drive the car out of the pits once your pit stop is complete. It will drive the car until you repeat the steps and transfer the control back to yourself.

Important to note: If you select the Swap Driver while you are on the track, the AI will sometimes take over during the race. (I suspect this a bug.) To avoid that from happening, do not select Swap Driver when you are on the track. Simply wait until you are in the pits.

                Have fun!

Thanks for the heads up. I'm going to try this tonight.

Just imagine if they utilized the swap driver online with a friend.......

You could be in a long endurance race and after a set amount of laps or time, just enter the pits, select swap driver, and then your friend takes over.

                  That would be awesome.

JMD, thank you for posting your controller settings. Made a world of difference for me. I went from qualifying 30th for the Indy 500 to first last night. Ran a 20 lap race and got out to a big lead until some jackwagon bringing up the rear spun out as I was lapping him and took me out of the race.

I will say the AI on the IMS Oval track is pretty poor. There is always a wreck in turn 1 on the first lap. Never fails. Does anyone know a way to combat this? If I turn up the AI level will it help them avoid causing so many wrecks?

Turn 1 at a few tracks is a crapshoot - hopefully this gets patched

I've come around and started to enjoy this games Rally Cross. Once i got the hang of everything and my settings and just learning to handle the cars stock or custom, it's much easier and fun.

I just wish more ppl played Rally Cross online. The servers are full of people doing different racing events but no one does Rally Cross. It's pretty dead online, and playing offline solo is boring to me, even if the AI is good. I just don't like racing games offline, always more fun with real ppl playing.

Thank you. I've been home for two days, threw my back out, it was quite painful but the laugh I just had reading this was worth it.

I've been playing with the A.I. aggression slider, so far I can't even tell if it does anything. In Project Cars 1 the A.I. was great, I'm seeing some issues in this game for sure.
