I've played nearly every console rally game since Sega Rally and the original Colin McRae Rally on the PlayStation. WRC 7 stands up as one of the finest ever created in the genre.

A truly outstanding game and an elevation of the franchise of which I didn't think developer Milestone was capable. All of Milestone's previous WRC-licensed games ranged from crap to mediocre. And then, BOOM: We're presented with this gem of a title. Solid!
I tried out Dirt Rally with 1 month game pass after my 1st race in Nascar 2( which was fun), and must say, did better than I thought I would. I am not exactly sure what everything means: Rally, Rally Cross, etc. What's the difference? What's the difference between Dirt 4 and WRC 7? I could possible add one of these Rally games if one of them has a career mode that will keep me coming back like F1, but not like forza 7 which seems generic and boring.

I never drove DIRT 4. Wasn't interested, as I knew it would be as realistic as DIRT Rally. The DIRT series always has been mainly sim-cade, other than DIRT Rally.

WRC 7 has the complete WRC license. Real cars, drivers, co-drivers, schedule, stages, etc. -- everything. I know that only means something to American rally dorks like me, but I far prefer a game with the official license and real stages -- the same stuff I see when I watch WRC rallies online.

I had to join this party. The racing games this year are boss, here is my take on what I have in my collection.

First I have Dirt 4 game is a blast on the track and beautiful to look at.

F1 2017 now this is a game for a racers heart the on track action the engineering planning what more could you ask for.

PC2 now this game has potential, but controls were very twitchy.

Now here is my game changer, wife got me the Xbox one x Nov. 20. Now dirt I have to still update it to Xbox x.

F1 2017 Man this game really has come life on the X. I have not done much racing yet, but I see many many F1 races to come especially during the Holidays. Lol

Now here is bees knees PC2 on Xbox X has brought this game to life the handling is much improve I am taking curves with back end hanging out, with worrying about losing it. I had two races just today that were awesome at Sonoma. The graphics are better, but there is a patch coming out soon that will make improvements on this.

Will update again after I get. Dirt on the X and get more time with F1 and PC2.

This has been the year that I've completely fallen for racing games. No clue how I've gotten the bug, exactly, but I'm all-in on GT Sport, F1 and DiRT...and have been eying Project Cars. (Though I have the demo...and the first experience did not go well)...Great year for racing games...it's basically a whole new genre for me.

I've dabbled before, from Driveclub, to Burnout Paradise, Need for Speed, Sega GT, and all the way back to Mario Andretti Racing on Genesis...but I've never been as into them as I have been for the past few months.

Re: 2017 racing games; the story so far...

Racing fans have it better than supporters of any other sports video game genre. There's something out there for just about anyone who likes racing in some form. It's almost absurd how many good to great racing options there are in comparison to the major sports. That's not a bad thing, though. I'm certainly not complaining.

I haven't played GTS much lately, but that's only due to me playing so many different games. That being said, it's a wonderful experience every time I log on. I love how the cars feel on the track, and all of the presentation/UI elements included. The sportsmanship rating has been a great addition to online racing, and one that will keep the servers active for a long time.

In the past few days, I've also gotten a chance to play Dirt Rally and Forza Horizon 3 for the first time.

              Wow.

I've never been much of a Rally guy outside of dabbling in Rallisport Challenge back in the day (XSN Sports for life), but Dirt Rally is an excellent game. It's fun, challenging, and just a very well put together experience. I'm really looking forward to digging into it more.

I'm also a big fan of arcade racers, and Forza Horizon 3 scratches that itch nicely. I played the original Horizon, but no other Forza titles since then. The first thing that stuck out to me was how nice the color palate is. The visuals really pop out at you, and it fits the game well. The next thing I noticed was how butter smooth the driving is. As much as I enjoy NFS games, the handling always feels like trash. The difference between those and Horizon 3 is night and day.

I thought the last F1 game was great, but I still haven't got around to playing the most recent edition. I have no doubt that Ill enjoy it. I'm still sour on Project Cars 2 due to handling issues in the first game, but I suppose that's always an option as well. I can't forget about Forza Motorsport 7 either.

All this being said, you racing fans better appreciate what you have right now. This is not the norm in sports gaming.

Give me rFactor2 and/or Automobilista any day over all the newer racing games. No game can come close to matching the physics, tyre models, etc. of those. Newer racing games are all about the sexy factor (aka "graphics") and not what matters.

For example, there are some free F1 mods out there for rF2 that blow Codemaster's product out of the water. Not a knock on them, I love Dirt Rally still.

I'm not trying to come off like a pretentious prick, just hate how the games with the best physics get pooped on for their lack of "sex appeal".

Reading this thread has brought back the itch to add a “racing game” to my rotation.

Also most recently PSN had WRC 7 for sale and I passed on it (regret that decision now). So many on OS and on YouTube have spoken very positively about it.

The last racing games that had my full attention were Driveclub and Forza Horizon 2.

WRC7 now $25 on Xbox store for gold members. Might be time for me to pull the trigger. How does this compare to dirt rally? I watched some reviews and one of the guys said the tracks are very narrow but that was really the only negative thing he said, the rest of the review was very positive.

I can't speak for Dirt Rally as I'Ve never played it but it seems to me that having very narrow tracks is really a positive in a rally game.

Anyway, I'm very happy with this WRC7.

The stages are more narrow than in DIRT Rally. But since WRC 7 is an officially licensed game, these are real stages from the WRC, not the fictitious ones in DIRT Rally.

WRC 7 also features real drivers and teams due to the license, which is cool. Play this, and maybe you'll become a WRC fan and start watching rallies on Red Bull TV on your laptop, gaming console or phone.

With SLRE, the Sébastien Loeb Experience single player mode looked cool to me. With WRC 7, your glowing posts and comments regarding gameplay brought the game to my attention.
