I have, and I can offer two words: Not good.

I posted first impressions on the cover of Digital Sportspage last night. Very disappointing game for the Xbox.

Re: Anyone play Need For Speed Hot Pursuit (XBOX)

why is it disappointing? I have it and I see nothing wrong with it, and it's a blast to play. I posted another thread a few days ago asking what were the major differences between the PS2 version and the Xbox version...all I got was the sense of speed was greater with the PS2 version.

I get a pretty mean sense of speed with the Xbox version so I'm not sure what is meant by that. Also, people mention that there is slowdown in the Xbox version, but again I haven't seen it. People keep posting that the Xbox version is crap, yet no one will give a worthwhile reason.

Even my local EB manager told me to bring my Xbox version back and get the PS2 version which is actually what originally got me to post in search of the differences.

I know the Xbox version suppports custom soundtracks, which obviously the PS2 version doesn't. No one can say that the PS2 version actually looks better either. I tried to find out the differences, but someone saying the sense of speed is greater just doesn't do it for me...I'm keeping my Xbox version.
No, I didn't draft Grossman on my fantasy team, what do you think I am an idiot?

Actually I just read the entire 3 page thread of which the link was posted above and most of it was just fanboys arguing over which system was better. Very little info about the actual game in question except for people saying that it was a crappy port. I'll be keeping my Xbox version because I'm very happy with it and in reality isn't that what it's all about?

Is it too easy to get away from the cops ? Just curious. I know it is a acrade type game.

              Bad:

Excerpts from my first impressions at Digital Sportspage:
              >>>>>>>
The Xbox version of the latest edition of this legendary arcade driving series has more graphical problems than a fading Hollywood starlet after botched plastic surgery.

First, the sense of speed is awful. I feel like I'm doing 30 mph when the speedometer says 130 mph.

Second, there is slowdown, especially when when trailing two or more cars on a dirt-road shortcut. The admirable particle effects of dust kicked up by the leading cars creates a lot of slowdown.

Third, the handling model of the cars is lousy, at least the early cars in the game. They drive like their in wet sand.

Four, the graphics are less than impressive other than the particle effects. The car models look dull compared to Sega GT, and the backgrounds won't buckle the knees of Rallisport Challenge, let's put it that way.

This is not a good game on the Xbox at all. Burnout for the Xbox was a much more enjoyable arcade driving experience, and Project Gotham Racing is in a different galaxy of excellence compared to Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit 2.

Thanks PK. I liked Project Gotham Racing. I will probably go with Sega GT. Do you like Sega GT ?

                  PK,
Thanks for your reply, but I can honestly say that I haven't seen the slowdown that you mentioned and I have put in at least 10 hours with the game. As for the sense of speed, it seems to be good enough for me, but I have heard that the PS2 version has a greater sense of speed.

You seem to think that the graphics are inferior, but inferior to what? I'll agree that the game doesn't look as good as Sega GT, but what I want to know is does the PS2 version actually look better? No one seems to be able to answer that. Again, not having the PS2 version to compare it to, I find myself more than satisfied with the Xbox version.

And Heelfan, no the cops are not easy to get away from. I can't tell you how many times I've been in first place in a knockout race only to have two cops hound me for nearly an entire lap and cause me to finish out of the money.

                    Bad:

I don't own a PS2, so I only compare the game to other Xbox games. And Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit isn't half as fun of an arcade racer as Burnout or Project Gotham Racing for the Xbox.

When I say the graphics are dull, I'm comparing them to other Xbox games, not PS2 games. The textures of the roads are fine, but the textures, lighting and light effects of the backgrounds are very substandard. All of the backgrounds look flat compared to most Xbox driving games.

I also find it hard to believe you've noticed no slowdown. It's rampant when the particle effects of smoke or dust or dirt are at play and more than one car is on the screen. No offense, but you're one of the few posters who haven't noticed this in the Xbox version.

I will agree that the cops are tough to evade on all levels, especially when you're driving a smaller car. The effects of physics are magnified when your light sports car is rammed by a heavy cop car. That effect also makes it tough for drivers of small, light cars to shove aside a cop car or spin it with a good thud to the rear quarter-panel.

Another plus is the course design. Very fun, long courses with pretty scenery, even if that scenery looks flat. There are many sweeping, high-speed corners and flowing turn complexes on most courses, a refreshing change from the chicane-ridden, choppy tracks in Sega GT 2002.

Still, I'm having little fun with this game. Burnout and Project Gotham are immensely more fun as arcade racers. In fact, I can count at least five Xbox racers I'd put ahead of Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit 2. Off the top of my head: Rallisport Challenge, Sega GT 2002, Burnout, Project Gotham Racing, NASCAR Heat 2002 and Moto GP.

                    Take care,
                    PK

                      Heel:

Sega GT 2002 is a fun game with some interesting gameplay wrinkles. It's more of a driving sim than Need For Speed, but it's not a pure sim by any means.

And once you earn enough money to buy really good cars, it becomes a lot easier to win races in Sega GT 2002. The game is challenging until you get a boss car, and then it almost feels like you've broken through a glass ceiling and can beat almost anything.

Sega GT 2002 then becomes the same as any of the Gran Turismo games -- a decent driving simulator that really becomes nothing more than a car-collecting game.

I'd recommend either Project Gotham, Rallisport and especially Moto GP over Need For Speed or Sega GT 2002. Moto GP is amazing -- wet pants-inducing racing, all the way. I've actually been lightly shaking at the end of some Moto GP races from the intense concentration required to succeed in that game.

                      Take care,
                      PK

                        Heelfan,
Here is a link to a pretty good review of the Xbox version of Need for Speed HP 2. There are a few overstatements in the review such as the graphics being as good as Rallisport Challenge...that certainly is not so, but it is a decent review nonetheless.

                        PK,
Sorry, I can't say I've seen the slowdown that you mentioned. If I have, it certainly wasn't enough to take away from the experience. I respect your opinion of the game, but it is a keeper for me.

                              Badgun,
Have you played the PS2 version of NFS at all? If you have I would be really surprised that the Xbox version satisfies you. If you haven't tried the PS2 version yet I suggest you don't so you will still enjoy the Xbox version. All I know is after playing the PS2 demo for NFS I was blown away at how fast it was. When I went to the store to pick it up I had read about the Xbox and Gamecube versions being slower than the PS2 version so I wanted to check out the Xbox version before purchasing the Xbox version just to make sure that people and reviewers weren't excaggerating. Fortunately for me Gamestop had the Xbox NFS in one of their kiosks when I went to buy the game so I tried it out. It was then that I realized that it was very slow compared to the PS2 version.
