2 IMPORTANT QUESTIONS for Nascar Thunder 2003

I have the Xbox version (man I love this game and I am not all that crazy about Nascar in particular) and it shows that I have for tracks of music to choose from or just let them all play in a cycle. But it also says I have 16 open tracks. What does this mean. If it means I can incorporate 16 more songs into the game how do I do this? It doesn't even mention it in the manual. Please answer it's driving me nuts!

Also one other question. I am driving in career mode and have it set to 100% of the race. In other words I am going the entire 200 laps or whatever it is for that particular race. Well I was doing well til about the 70th lap. I noticed my car was losing M.P.H. By lap 100 I was going from 188 mph to about 180mph....another 20 laps and I was down another3 mph or more. I finally got bumped from behind at 136 or so and wrecked the car. I was out of the race. But what would cause this. Is it because i was not with a top notch car or engine?

Thanks top anyone who can help here!!

A few things could be happening. Engine wear over the race...damage to your car will cause slower speeds...
Have not gotten many hours in yet but what I have seen so far is cool..except for sub par graphics for the XBOX.

You can have a total of 20 songs selected. The 4 that come with the game are selected at first thats why you can do 16 more. But you can go back and do all your own.

Subpar graphics for the Xbox. Dude they are the best of all the consoles. Read any review. Plus I have a PS2 also and I checked it out on both. The PS2 is the one with some graphic problems (and they are minor). But Xbox absolutely rules. This game on any console last year was good but nothing like this years version. You must have something wrong with your Xbox because if those are subpar graphics I couldn't imagine how good great graphics would be!

I think it was in the options menu under music and then you could cycle through songs on your hard drive. I only rented it. Too many other games right now to buy it.

The graphics on the XBOX version are no way near what they could be for an XBOX. So yes they ARE sub par. Grainy, jaggy...port. I don't care what they look like compared to the PS2, for an XBOX they are not what they should be.

I agree with you. The Xbox graphics are a straight port from the PS2, with jaggies and clarity problems in the background.

NASCAR Heat 2002 for the Xbox looks better than NASCAR Thunder 2003.

My game looks great on Xbox. I was going to get it for PS2 because my kid seems to think it's easier but it doesn't look as good and since I was playing it also I got it for Xbox. Hmmmmmmm. Funny how all reviews seem to say it is a 9 on graphics. But if that's sub par...the heck with it...I will take it!

                    Nos:

Rent NASCAR Heat 2002, and you'll see a year-old game with better graphics for the Xbox than NASCAR Thunder 2003. Look at Moto GP or Rallisport Challenge -- both have much better graphics than NASCAR Thunder 2003 for the Xbox.

My big problem with EA is that it does little to nothing to optimize PS2 ports for the Xbox and GC. At least other developers, such as Infogrames with NASCAR Heat, but in time to make the Xbox version look better and, in some cases, play better.

For example, NASCAR Heat 2002 for the PS2 only has 20-something-car fields. The Xbox version has a full 43-car field.

                    Take care,

Honestly with thunder I didn't care about the graphics that much. They were good enough. What drew me in was the career mode. Give me that with even ps1 graphics and I'd play it.

Actually i did play it...I thought they were good but I did not think they were better. Maybe it's me...but i love NC2003....mainly for the career mode. Plus every review I have read has it well over Heat! Show me one that diesn't. Don't get me wrong. I usually do not go by reviews alone. But in this case there is just too many to dispute!

                          Ok, for the last time....
I do not mean to say the XBOX Thunder graphics are "bad". Compared to other consoles I'm sure they look good/better. MY POINT: The graphics are not close to what the XBOX can do, so yes to me the graphics are sub par for an XBOX GAME.
If you all want to settle for things as long as they are the best version of the consoles, fine. I want the best the console I'm playing can do.

                            >>>Plus every review I have read has it well over Heat!<<<

                            Nos:

How can the reviewers compare NASCAR Thunder 2003 to NASCAR Heat: Dirt to Daytona when Dirt to Daytona hasn't been released yet?

If reviewers are comparing NASCAR Heat 2002 to NASCAR Thunder 2003 for the PS2, then yes, I'll agree that Thunder is better. But if they're comparing the Xbox versions, they're nuts. NASCAR Heat 2002 has better graphics, better CPU AI, better tuning options and a MUCH better and more challenging driving model than NASCAR Thunder 2003.

Now, if you're comparing career modes, there is no comparision: NASCAR Thunder 2003 wins by default because NASCAR Heat 2002 has no career mode. But if you're factoring in realism and driving model, Heat 2002 for the Xbox wins by a lap.

I've put in time with both and work in racing, so I know a bit about it. Thunder may be more "fun" for most because it's not as realistic. But the driving model -- from realistic drafting to simulating understeer created by worn tires to spins induced created by dipping too low on to the transition between the banking and the apron -- is much better in NASCAR Heat 2002.

I guess it depends on what you seek in a NASCAR game. I want the most realistic game possible. That's the most fun for me.

Again, different strokes! It's all good.

                            Take care,

They don't compare them head to head...it's the individual reviews...Go to Gamespot.com or IGN.com or any other that is somewhat reputable. ALL say the XBox game for Thunder is the best. If Heat is that great I don't see why it's consistently rated at 7.5 or in that general area and Thunder is always 8 and above. But that could be due to having the career mode and Heat not having one. Heat may be more realistic in the tweaking of the cars but as far as driving it it was too jerky and it seemed like it wasn't that smooth. I found it very easy to oversteer also. Then I'll admit I may not have given it enough of a chance. So perhaps that is what I should do before going on about how good Thunder is....I guess we are all sick of this subject and you are correct. To each his own. And as I said...if the Graphics are sub par FOR THE Xbox compared to what they could be....I will take it because it works for me! But I will take you others advice and give Heat another try!
