    F1 2021 My Team: How's yours going?

I am absolutely in love with this game on the PS5 and I'm curious about how everyone's My Team careers are progressing? I'm getting towards the end of season 1 with Jordan GP modeled after the sexy yellow and black liveries they used back in the day. Currently sitting on 49 points with the driver AI at 89 and a bunch of assists on (to be clear, I suck at the game and probably use the flashback like 50+ times a race). I've been doing the full practice sessions (simming one or two of them most weekends), short qualifying, and the medium length races. I love it! Monaco is impossible so I only did five laps there and to compensate for that I completed the Austrian GP on long. That came out to 38 laps and was a lot of fun.

Car dev has been a problem. I feel like I'm doing as well as I can and I'm still stuck hovering just above Williams and below Haas. I don't mind a slow progression, just hoping that I didn't do something wrong that's holding me back from catching up to the midfield.

Do you guys use the My Team Icons? Did I make a mistake not turning them on? I saw that once you turn it on you can't turn them back off, is there a reason to NOT activate it?

I am glad you started this thread. I have not started MyTeam yet but I am currently in season 2 of my driver career. I started with HAAS and finished 6th in the championship. This season I am with Aston Martin we hopes of joining Ferrari in 2 seasons. I only do 10 races, as far as R and D I think it will be slower with the smaller teams like the team you started. I am seeing with Aston Martin they have resources for more resources points to be acquired.

I also don’t use the Icons. I’m only 3 races in. Have had 2 or 3 R&D parts fail. Lol kinda waiting for them to release the new tracks before I get too in depth in it. Want to make sure the new tracks won’t require a MyTeam restart.

Re: F1 2021 My Team: How's yours going?

I do have Icons turned on, but I am also only on Barcelona so far. I'm doing full length everything, so it's taking a while to progress.

My R&D projects have all failed so far, but for some reason or other, we're in the middle of the pack as far as car goes.

I've been gradually increasing my difficulty after every weekend, am now up to 59 (just below hard). Hoping that a good weekend in Spain will push us up into the hard area.

Re: F1 2021 My Team: How's yours going?

I haven't gotten into My team yet, settling in on a career mode driver first making my way through F2 then I'll see where I sign in F1. Doing full season, 50% races and short qualification sessions. Since there is no R&D in F2 I skip practice. Once in F1 I'll go full 100% race.

Currently set difficulty to 79. Used a YouTube video to learn how to figure out proper AI difficulty and it works great. I have full traction control on and ABS on. Also racing lines on for corners only. I force myself not to use flashbacks unless I completely crash out or something crazy all by myself. But the full traction control and ABS on really helps a lot. I'm also using a controller if that makes a difference.

I managed to finish 2nd in my first F2 career race behind Tsunoda. Definitely will have a tough time contending with better drivers at the F1 level. 79 difficulty is perfect for me. At 80 (expert level) I was so far back from teammate on a one shot qualifying session as a test.

What are team icons? I don't think I've seen that option.

2nd race of the F2 career season in Spain. I managed to hold on to the win just barely beating out Tsunoda. Him and I are clearly in a battle for the championship all season.

Next race is Monaco. Did the qualifying session and qualified 14th. Had the pole in first two races. Monaco is a complete different monster of course. 21 lap race with 50% race length. I'll be playing this later on this evening. I think with other cars on the track it will help me judge braking points better and I think I should be able to sneak into a top 5. My teammate qualified 2nd so the car has the speed.

Well my strategy for Monaco was to gain spots first lap then just play defense. It worked best it could. I finished 8th so got some points. However Tsunoda wins the race plus a 4 point bonus for getting the pole position.

Tsunoda now leads the points 74 and I've fallen to 2nd with 59 points. Next race is Baku where I assume we can get back on track and be right there in the hunt to win it and get the pole. I need Tsunoda to have a bad race performance at some point with only 9 races remaining in my one and only F2 season I will play through before heading to F1 with my driver career mode.

Baku was a great race! Qualified with wet tires until last 6min when it was dry enough to put on super soft tires. Unfortunately it wasn't enough time for me to really get used to the track again and put down a good time. I skip practice since in F2 there is no R&D. Qualified last, 22nd on the grid.

Race day I knew I had the speed to win as I do every race here in F2. 15 lap race and on lap 12 I finally take the lead over Mick Schumacher. I hold on from there to win it! Tsunoda finished 4th so we are now tied for 1st with 76pts each.

I really don't want to use flashbacks but I'm not that good at the game so I have to quite a bit sometimes. I don't mind if I crash but just want it to be more of a thing that was out of my control. Rather than just me ramming in the back of someone or sliding hard into walls. I still definitely feel like I am earning every position I gain. I was able to gain 10 spots up to 12th into the first turn. By lap 3 I was in 10th.

After that the overtakes were not easy and I had to be patient as well as be clean. I do force myself to have clean passes. If I don't I'll flashback. I don't want to wreck guys to pass them. This game is very rewarding when you pass a guy clean.

Up next is Spielberg. Looks like qualifying has rain again but should be intermediates instead. Loving this game as always! Really need a steering wheel to make it even more fun.

                  100% Races - 85 AI

Daland F1 (yes, taking inspiration from Days of Thunder with the team name and the paint scheme ) secured a 14th place finish in the Bahrain GP. Started 13th on the grid, couldn't keep Ocon or Vettel behind me and dropped to 15th within a couple of laps. The Alfa Romeo's were also all over the back of me, but the AI made some errors (I'm loving the unpredictability and mistakes that the AI can make). Giovinazzi made a very audacious move on the outside of the hairpin at turn 10 that was never going to work and ended up going off course. Up next was Raikkonen, who tried to pass me going into turn one by pinching me down on the inside. I tried my best to keep my car off of him, but he ended up breaking the end plate of his front wing off of my rear tire.

Schumacher was up next, and while he was able to get into DRS range, he was never able to get closer than .4 seconds to me before his tires started to fall away and I was able to open up a 3 second advantage before the first round of pit stops.

My setup seemed to take care of the tires really well, but sacrificed some speed, and I ended up in no-man's land and pretty much cruising around the track by myself. With four laps to go, Stroll DNF'd, which promoted us up to 14th.

                  Podium - HAM/VER/BOT

Continuing on in the F2 series. Won back to back races for race 5 and 6 of 12. Leading the points ahead of Tsunoda by 56pts we come into Hungary race #7. There I was not nearly as fast and managed a 9th place qualification. We managed to finish 5th in the race however.

Of course Tsunoda won so my points lead is now only 12 headed into race #8 of 12 at Belgium! I went ahead and qualified and got the pole over Tsunoda. Should win the race when I get around to racing it later tonight. I'm at 50% race length. I may keep it at 50% until I do a my team then I'll jump to 100%. Depending on what team I can sign with for F1 I may only do one season before starting a my team.

We have reached race #12, the final race of the F2 season! We won in Belgium for race 9. Race 10 in Italy we won as well. Race 11 in Russia we qualified 14th and finished 7th. Locked up the F2 championship with a 43pt lead headed into the final race in Abu Dhabi. Since race 9 I've stuck with one shot qualifying and medium length races. Just trying to finish this F2 season.

Next update will be signing with F1 team after this F2 championship!

The F2 championship is ours! Taking the lead on the final two turns we win at Abu Dhabi. We take the team championship title as well. I randomly chose the ART GP team at the beginning.

I was then asked to sign with a F1 team. I was able to sign with any of them so a bit disappointing there. However, since I was with ART in F2 it put a star inside McLaren racing box to indicate ART PG is their driver academy. Naturally felt it was right to sign with them.

So now we begin our F1 career with McLaren racing! Daniel Riccardo is our teammate and we fired Lando Norris. Hopefully another team signs him.

                          F1 2021 My Team: How's yours going?

Finished P13 at the Spanish GP. I was feeling pretty good about my one stop strategy possibly getting us a points finish.

Then it started raining. For some reason, I’ve always done well in the rain in the past, but it seems like they beefed the AI performance up in the wet this year. Which is fine with me, as I always felt I could punch way above my weight in wet races. Was running P10 and we could potentially get our first points finish.

Team was calling for two sets of intermediates, and I pitted at lap 44. Unfortunately for me, the intensity of the rain severely picked up in the middle of pit stops and suddenly we needed the full wets. Damn Mother Nature.

The extra pit stop didn’t help us and we dropped to P14. Was able to overtake Raikkonen with five to go to secure P13.

Up next…Monaco. The key to getting around Monaco is consistency and smoothness.

                          Neither are my strongest qualities.

Hopefully at Monaco, I can share some pics. Game wasn’t saving pictures for some reason, and online research revealed it could’ve been my antivirus causing the problem.

"Keep calm and remember...no heroics into Sainte Devote."

Oh Monaco...how I loathe thee. But today....I had probably the best race I've ever had. Yes, I had to change the front wing once....but only once (Giovinazzi required two front wing changes, one for running into the back of Schumacher at the beginning of the race, and a second for...reasons).

Started P15, but that put us on the all important inside line into Sainte Devote and I was able to follow Stroll through for P14 and challenged Alonso for P13. But I thought better of it and lifted and tucked in behind him. That's where we pretty much remained. It's Monaco.

My set up though took AMAZING care of the tires. I always do the race strategy practice programs with all three sets of tires that way I can get a personalized race strategy. We were going medium to soft, with a 50 lap first stint. Seemed rather audacious, especially when the pit stops started around lap 30.

We just kept going and going...and soon we found ourselves up to P7. No on track passes, just pure strategy and managed to keep guys on fresh tires behind me and they used their tires up trying to get around us. Afterall, it is Monaco.

We finally pitted on lap 50, dropping to P14...but my god we had a major tire advantage and I put that to good use. Got the fastest lap, and the train of cars that I was leading when I pitted...I caught up with them. My favorite place to pass (frankly the only place I could pass) was into Mirabeau, and I started picking them off one by one as their trashy tires couldn't keep up with my softs.

We ended up finishing P freaking 7. Our first points finish...and we got the bonus point for fastest lap.

                            Podium: VER/BOT/PER

Oh man that Daland paint scheme is nice. Livery is looking pretty sick.
