Re: Gran Turismo 7 Review - A Legacy of Love on Display

A few impressions: I'm on the PS4 Pro so the game looks similar to GT Sport maybe a bit better.

The good: game feels great ,very smooth , I'm using a controller and it really feels nice. Also I believe this game will be amazing once I have everything unlocked.

The bad: Unless I'm missing something everything is locked. I don't understand this. Why do Dev's do this crap? I want to Jump in , grab a GT3 class car and set up a custom race on a track of my choosing. I don't want to be forced to race slow compact cars that some grandma drives and complete a large amount of license tests to get everything opened up. They should allow those who want to do the career to do so , and those that want to race to do so.

Also when doing these tasks we must do to open up the game , why do we have to waste time spamming the X button to get through the text the next dude you get introduced to is telling you? I've been playing GT for 25 years how about an option to turn this info I already know off.

Another crap feature not changed from the last game : when you set up a custom race there is no way to save the settings , so you have to go through the process every damn time.

Another pain in the ***: if your car does not qualify for a race instead of being able to fix the situation right there , you have to back out of that area and go to the tuning shop , make the necessary adjustments and go back to the event. Why is there not a Tuning Shop icon at this screen so we can quickly get the car what it needs?

I honestly don't know what these game dev's are thinking.

As I said this will all change when I get it all opened up and this will most likely be the best racing game on consoles , but until then the grind continues.

I’ve noticed the same things. Not sure why we have to waste hours and hours before we can actually play. I guaranteed this will turn a number of people off. Some people probably won’t ever actually open the full game because they don’t feel like doing this stupid license and car collector stuff.

A bit disappointed to hear GT7 hasn't really altered the formula in many ways, although it sounds exactly like something a Japanese game company would make. Gran Turismo has always, in a sense, been about the grind and the appreciation of cars. Even cars you probably wouldn't think to appreciate, and I believe that's why they force all the gate-keeping stuff in the beginning of the game.

The games are so deep and polished that I was willing to work through these early career-on-rails events, but I would have liked to see the developers start mixing things up now that we're at the 7th iteration (plus a few more in-between). However, I do understand where they're coming from as "car people." They want the players to stop and smell the roses, as it were. To some extent.

On the plus side now that I’ve opened more stuff up there the option to modify your cars , both with performance parts and visual. That’s new.

Game is giving me vibes and great memories of playing Gran Turismo 3 years ago on Ps2. I for one enjoy and love the grind of the license tests etc. It's exactly what makes GT what it is and part of how it separates itself from any other racing game.

So glad they went back to their roots from GT 2 and 3 days. Game looks, feels amazing. This is me only on a regular PS4.

This is the GT game I've been waiting for since that GT2/3 era.

It's like the passion for cars, racing history and gaming that Polyphony Digital had during the early years tailed off for a bit but now is back. You can feel it, there's just something about the vibe with GT7 feels right.

I like the game, but the car list is awful compared to FH5.

Gran Turismo 7 Review - A Legacy of Love on Display

I am so utterly baffled by this game's aesthetic and theming.

This is a fun racing game, and there is clearly a lot going on under the hood! But the presentation of it all is so daft. I do not understand how any creative human process could have led to its compilation, and what ended up in this game is to me just totally hysterical.

Im enjoying the game but does it not have track leaderboards or time attack? I cant find that anywhere. I cant believe a racing game wouldnt have any kind of leaderboards.

Has anyone done license tests yet? One of them has to be glitched. I think it’s International one where you have to slow way down and weave through. What happens is I start to weave and all of a sudden my car magically appears through the maze, car stopped. Impossible to beat time with your car stopping.

                            This is on PS5.

Enjoying the game, as I have every real (not you GT Sport) entry of this series since the first one 25 years ago. It does have it's issues though.

I have several negatives to mention, but overall the game is fun.

I definitely get the frustration with the grind, but that's kind of what GT is. I do agree that I don't enjoy driving around a 140hp hybrid, but it does give a sense of progression that you don't get in a game like Forza where you can very quickly get into exotic cars. That progression has always made me appreciate each new step up the ladder of performance. I do think it's probably a bit TOO grindy though. Doing races to get 3 Japanese compact cars, then 3 old European compacts, then 3 Japanese FR cars...I think that this was a bit too much.

Where the grind really hurts though is with the game's difficulty. Other than getting golds on all the licenses, nothing about the early stages of the game are remotely challenging. Other than spending about an hour in GT Sport last year, I have not touched a Sony racing game in 8 years. I immediately turned off all assists and I put the AI difficulty on hard. I'm still winning 2 lap races by 10-20 seconds though. Which kind of exasperates the slow build up problem because you feel like you're just going through the motions in driving a Honda Fit.

The game sounds great. I love the soundtracks in the various menus and the sound of the mufflers in races.

                              Weather effects are pretty cool.

As always this is a game about car collecting, and there looks to be a pretty decent list. However, it's also a pretty disappointing list, much less than both it's mainline prequel and it's direct competitor. Noticeably absent are a lot of newer models like the Porsche 911 (992) and C8 Corvettes. Maybe some of these will come in future downloads, but these are premium packs then I'll be pretty angry given both increased price (PS5) and how it compares to other iterations. The one plus side about it missing some of the newer models is that we don't see any of the BMW redesigns when they ruined the kidney grilles. So, it's not to not have that eye sore in the game.

It's baffling that you can't skip the opening intro. I nearly fell asleep.

Lack of car damage is a huge turnoff. I don't understand how Forza is able to get licensing to allow it but GT can't. The biggest problem is how it impacts the races. It's almost like playing Gran Turismo on the PS1 where you were actually better off using the wall to help you turn in some instances because there was no penalty.

Graphics are both solid and underwhelming at the same time. Cars look great in the menus. I just kind of hoped the tracks would look a little better. I'm assuming this is because they built the game while still keeping the PS4 in mind, but that's just my guess.

There is an option to turn off the intro movie in the options menu, FYI. But yeah making that intro scene unskippable is a choice lol.

This game very obviously wants players to love its romanticized story of the automobile as much as it indulges in telling that story. And BOY does it indulge lol.
