Patch has been pushed back to June and it looks like there won’t be a new game this year.

    Interesting development.

There are 2 ways this could go:
    1. They are losing the license. Usually when you negotiate an exit its not immediate. You complete the current project and then go your separate ways. This works best for both sides as for the license owner you wouldn't have enough time to find a new licensee and have them work on making a release, and the license holder wouldn't be caught in a really bad spot by having to throw away months of work. By instead releasing an expansion the team wouldn't have to devote as much to a full game that would ultimately be wasted investments, and it reduces the odds that Motorsports releases another dud that would harm the brand. A month or two from now it could be announced that the license is going somewhere else but the expansion to 21 would still be released.

    2. They are keeping the license and genuinely believe this is the path to right the ship and Nascar has signed off on it. According to this plan, they are doing what many gamers want Madden to do to fix its issues.

Initial thoughts are that scenario 1 seems much more likely, but I can't rule out scenario 2

Pretty sad when Rocket League has all 3 next gen cars before the officially licensed NASCAR video game does.

Just came from reddit to see if there was any info about this, like what all is changed. Is there any info other than the vague "free update" bit?

                  Re: Next Gen Update 6/23

I've had about an hour of seat time with the new X/S upgrade. I give it an overall thumbs-up, even though it didn't include the addition of a rear view mirror. The textures are definitely richer, control feels better at 60 FPS, and the force feedback steering with my Thrustmaster TX is more realistic. There's enough there to make me want to have a go at a season, even though the game still feels sort of incomplete.

One thing I did find is that my Thrustmaster wheel lost its force feedback when I changed from an oval (Nashville) to a road course (Watkins Glen). Not only did it lose its force feedback, it's sensitivity was reduced to the extent that I had to go into my wheel's onboard steering wheel ranges and change its range from 900 deg to 540 deg, to get the same sensitivity. I then had to close the game, turn my wheel off, reboot my wheel, start NASCAR 21 using the wheel. This series of actions restored the force feedback, which thankfully, feels pretty natural with the default settings... which can't be changed.

I'm anxious to read the reactions of others to this, but for now, I at least have a NASCAR racing game that I want to give another chance to.

I will say that they've done nothing to help the handoff from autopilot control at the start of the race over to the driver. It took me four tries before I could make it through the first turn at Talladega because the handoff put me in a quick drift, putting me into another car or the wall because of degree of corrections needed were impossible. At veteran difficulty level, I was able to run with the last quarter of the field and felt less threatened by cars diving under me entering turns.

The next-generation upgrade is out...and they can't even hit 60fps in 4k on the next-generation consoles.

Wow. That is like the bare minimum, and they have capped fps in 4k at 30fps...in a racing game.

Yeah it seemed like any additions would have been a stretch goal. You would think a rear view mirror would be a fairly simple thing to add in, but perhaps not.

I'll continue playing NH5 for the time being

I found the control much better than expected...

I've actually contemplated buying this as it's been on sale numerous times since it's release but have done my best to refrain from doing so. I have a feeling the upcoming 2022 season update will be their last ditch effort to get some money out of this disaster they call a game before MSG sells all of it's assets and closes shop before the end of the year.

I hope nobody gets hoodwinked regarding that.

Not sure if you heard about the "Town Hall" they had a few months ago but they claimed that "last gen" consoles aren't powerful enough to support a rearview mirror.

They also claimed the reason for no fuel gauge is because there's no fuel gauge IRL, even though iRacing (the game they compared themselves to) has a fuel information overlay. LOL

                              That's rich.

I still have the same opinion that I did a few months ago. Its already understood by both parties that the Nascar license will be finding a new home, it just hasn't been announced yet or made official until after the September expansion is released
