I've spent a good deal of time with this game since the update last week. It's definitely better than it was prior to the update, but I still can't get past the first event in Career mode for two reasons:
1.) The lack of a rear view mirror causes me to make mistakes and take bad positions because I can't tell where the cars behind me are exactly. I'm running a 15% length season and I had actually gotten to the 24th lap in one race by simply keeping the high line all the way around Daytona. I qualified 12th, but dropped to 30th in doing so, but at least I was staying on the track and holding off the 31st through 40th place cars.
The problem is that if I race with my normal competitive instincts, I'm usually taken out by a nasty rear bump from a car I should have been able to see setting up for the bump in my rear view mirror. I don't like having to race under house restrictions that severe!
2.) Since I using a steering wheel with this game, I have to have the controller plugged in to navigate certain menu screens. This sets up the most fatal flaw of the game for steering wheel users. When you're in a long race where you've had to do no controller manipulation, the controller times out and shuts down. This takes away your steering control even though your wheel is still connected. You have to reconnect the controller to correct the situation with your wheel. Once you get control of it, you're going to find yourself pasted against a wall with varying degrees of car damage.
I had three races end yesterday where I was having a good run going, forgot to wiggle the right stick to keep the controller active, and had my race end due to the controller time out knocking the steering wheel control out along with it. This is inexcusable and this, along with item 1 are show stoppers for me!
