Re: NASCAR 21: Ignition Next-Gen Upgrade Available Today - Patch Notes

I've spent a good deal of time with this game since the update last week. It's definitely better than it was prior to the update, but I still can't get past the first event in Career mode for two reasons:

1.) The lack of a rear view mirror causes me to make mistakes and take bad positions because I can't tell where the cars behind me are exactly. I'm running a 15% length season and I had actually gotten to the 24th lap in one race by simply keeping the high line all the way around Daytona. I qualified 12th, but dropped to 30th in doing so, but at least I was staying on the track and holding off the 31st through 40th place cars.

The problem is that if I race with my normal competitive instincts, I'm usually taken out by a nasty rear bump from a car I should have been able to see setting up for the bump in my rear view mirror. I don't like having to race under house restrictions that severe!

2.) Since I using a steering wheel with this game, I have to have the controller plugged in to navigate certain menu screens. This sets up the most fatal flaw of the game for steering wheel users. When you're in a long race where you've had to do no controller manipulation, the controller times out and shuts down. This takes away your steering control even though your wheel is still connected. You have to reconnect the controller to correct the situation with your wheel. Once you get control of it, you're going to find yourself pasted against a wall with varying degrees of car damage.

I had three races end yesterday where I was having a good run going, forgot to wiggle the right stick to keep the controller active, and had my race end due to the controller time out knocking the steering wheel control out along with it. This is inexcusable and this, along with item 1 are show stoppers for me!

Is there a way to turn off the spotter text in the chase view ??

I'm having some fun with the PS5 upgrade even with some of the glaring issues that are head scratchers in this day and age.

Would love to get rid of the text....I find it distracting.

They have spotter text in the chase view? I didn't know that... I suck at using the chase view perspective in any racing game. I hope the spotter gives better information in text mode than he does in voice! I may have to try the chase mode out just to see how that compares. I can see where chase view would definitely give me more clues as to when the AI are going to execute a turn exiting dive bomb nudge on my left rear quarter panel... you know, the one that puts you into a violent 3 rotation plus spin?

I could honestly give this game an honest career mode season if it just had a rear view mirror option and all in-game race actions could be performed with the steering wheel controls themselves. This need to have the game controller active while I'm racing with a wheel results in more game-killing endings than anything else. It's hard to remember to tap you controller every ten minutes to keep it from timing out.

            I don’t believe so, it’s so annoying.

Can’t believe there’s no option to disable it.

Seems to be from what I can tell. How can they expect to sell DLC for a game that's as unfinished in its core as this one?

I checked this out last week and forgot to report back on it. Yes, the spotter text appears in all external views, with no option to turn it off. I don't know why I was expecting the spotter text to say anything different than the voice. I'd still pay $10 for a rear view mirror DLC for this game! it would make it a MUCH more enjoyable game for me.

If I hear one more time about we are getting ready to pit or whatever he says I may scream lol. Doesn’t need to be said every lap.

The only way to get rid of the spotter text in external views is to turn off all the heads up display...lol. Unreal.

Seriously man... how can we expect them to provide a rear view mirror option when they can't even give us an option to turn off the spotter text!?

One other sort of related point... if you're going to support a next-gen upgrade to a game, I'm surprised that if they couldn't get NASCAR 21: Ignition to run at 60 FPS in 4K, they didn't at least work in an option for 60 FPS @ 1080p. I know that would be my preference!

Could this game have gone any worse? Seriously, literally EVERYTHING is either broken or doesn’t work as it should in 2022.

I followed up to a commitment I made to at least complete an entire season with this game after the last patch. Ignition's lack of a rear view mirror makes the early race positioning overly difficult. I developed a strategy whereby I just skip the qualifying and settle for last place in the starting grid.

I find that when I start in last place, I can work my way up through the field as they find their groove. As I pass them, I find that I can get a better idea of how they're attacking the track and how I can safely pass them without having them get back into me as we approach the next turn. It's working rather well for me. At 25% race length, I can usually get back into the top ten. I also have 3 wins in my still incomplete season.

The biggest problem I face right now is the controller timing out and disconnecting, while I'm racing with my Thrustmaster TX steering wheel. It's fatal when it happens, as the steering wheel locks up when the controller times out, and you're on your way to a race ending crash before you can resync the controller. I try to combat it by trying to remember to reach over and wiggle the "view" thumbstick (the right stick) on the controller to keep it from timing out. I've had three races end early because I got so caught up in the race that I forgot to do it.

Having said all this, I must admit, I'm finding some aspects of this game to be entertaining. It's just a shame that it's so heavily punctuated with easily fixable flaws that it's hard to put the workarounds needed into practice to offset them. There's another seasonal update allegedly coming next month that's going to add a rear view mirror and a new UI front-end, among other things. A rear view mirror and an user interface that allowed the steering wheel to take care of all the actions needed, at least while in a race, would help big time with this game.

I'm curious to see how it works out. It's probably too much to ask to have a vsync option that would allow for 60 FPS on the Series X, but that would be a major coup for this game
