GT4 hype is just that hype, heres why

I would have to say a 7/10 at best. This game has been in development for the last four years. Still 6 cars, poor AI and no online play.

The first two problems existed on the very first GT and there still here. These three factors are more important to me then how many cars there are and how a games looks. How can you have a great playing racing game with s****y AI and six cars? As long as we continue to rate mediocre games highly mediocre games is what we will get. IMO

    Thanks

Yet, still no other game capture the feeling of driving like GT4 does, thats why it gets 9's and above. The way the screen moves when you brake or accelerate, when it shakes over bumps or when you wreck, when you hear your tires regaining traction after hitting a bumb, when hear the wind outside your car. Ive been playing videogames for 20 years and this is the first game ive played that made me have motion sickness. When you lose control of your car, and you start to skid at 190 MPH, you have no control, tires squealing, screen shaking violently, and then bang you hit the wall and your whole screen is just a blur, it was sensory overload and I felt lightheaded. Im fine so long as I dont wreck that much, when that screen blurs, it messes me up. And last, the sense of speed is amazing, this game dosnt fake it with blurs like other games, it feels real, when your in a F1 car and your taking bends at the Nurb at 200 MPH, it gets the adreniline pumping. Thats what this game is about, hence "The Real DRIVING Simulator". No other racer captures the feel of driving like GT4 does.

People said the very same things about the first three. Four years later and saying the same thing.

I dig it though even if it is the "same" game. Yes, it could be better.

The AI is better. One thing they should have done, when you race the family cup races at tracks you can set the difficulty on a 1-10 scale. I have had some amazing races by raising it to 6-7 and taking them on. So what would have been great would be to have that difficulty setting at all races.

I have about 7 competive race series that I have "frozen" by tuning the car so that it is competitive but not the best car in race. That way I can rerace those series anytime I want and they are incredible races.

You don't have to out horsepower the game. It's a shame that it is too easy to do that but there it is.

I have played a sh*tload of racing games on all systems and GT4 is pretty hot.

I would give it a solid 8.5. There is just so much racing to be had in the game.

It needs tunable AI and crash/damage modeling. It's a shame those two things are missing.

I took out the manual to GT1 and I'm amazed how little this series has evolved. Hell some of the visual options are more fleshed out in the first game! Seriously besides a roster update with some tuned physics it's the exact same game as GT1.

well, the thing that annoys me to no end is that the game still uses the same "cheats" to give the AI an advantage. Two examples.
                        1. you still start every race in last place regardless of anything. You could be doing a 6 track race and finish the first 5 in first, you'll still start the 6th in last place. Lame because you dont spend the race competing with the AI, you just spend the race catching up with the car in first.
                        2. AI cars still have that suction and cannot ever be induced to a spin. I thought this was a sim? Where are the actual sim like physics then?

nicely said...I think the GT on the PS3 could be flat out amazing if they tighten up the AI and add the crash/damage modeling. I think we'd have a stellar racing game if that were to happen. Seems like a lot of racing/driving games focus on different areas, but no one game puts it all together perfect.
