Speed News: Unification?!

WOW!!! Caught the breaking news. I think my head is spinning. Let's clarify what Robin Miller is reporting...

* Eidswick initiated a call to Tony George (presumably on behalf of KK) over this weekend to discuss what it would take to unite the two series.

* Mario Andretti is the driving force behind an initiative for a common engine/chassis formula so that if CCWS and IRL do not unite, they can at least run some big events together.

* The Three Amigos are fine with Tony George as a partner provided he is not the main man.

* Tony George is suggesting that things could happen if he can talk directly to the Three Amigos...but then reportedly is playing coy about it.

For sure, something is going on behind the scenes and it sounds BIG. Robin will be on Wind Tunnel tonight to discuss more details...

P.S.: Did you happen to catch any of the ALMS race today from Road Atlanta on CBS? Superb racing, especially in the GT2 class, with the intense battle between the Porsche and the Panoz for the win. Real hammer-and-tongs racing ... great stuff. Much better than the snoozefest that NASCAR put on this afternoon at Texas. Damn it, NASCAR needs to return to last year's spoiler and tire package. The racing this year hasn't been nearly as good as last year.

Yes I saw the ALMS race and MotoGP. I flipped to NASCAR during commercials. Outside of Bristol or any other short track I can not bring myself to watch a whole NASCAR race. THAT ALMS race was easily the best racing action I've seen all year. Two fast, evenly matched cars with two great drivers running together at the absolute limit, that is what it comes down to when you want to talk about an enjoyable racing experience. Yeah I might be jumping the gun but if you saw Speednews it was a pretty good story on the split and how to get them back together. It would make sense with both series coming up with new specs in the next few years.

That article was truly depressing. Nothing at all like they played it up on Speednews. CHAMP CAR has come to Tony now like 5-6 times to get this right. However Tony never wants to play. I get the feeling that Tony's idea of unification is like Germany's idea of unification with Poland.
