Forza Question ???????

Does anyone know what the red number is that pops up occasionally under all of the lap times in the upper right corner of the screen??? I know that it occurs after I've done something bad like going off the road, hitting cones, having an accident, etc........ Is this some type of penalty system that tacks extra penalty seconds onto your current lap and the entire race time ?? The cones example was during an actual road race, not the cone challenge in arcade mode.

Another things I've noticed was during a 2 lap race (forget what where and what mode) but it showed my best lap time and the overall race time. After doing the simple math, I came up with less time on the other lap which was actually the better lap.....hope that makes sense !!!!! (LOL) Could this be due to the above mentioned penalty system ???

Just trying to figure these 2 issues out.

OKay, I must have overlooked this the first time I checked the manual but the first question is answered. There is penalty time in the game. This very well may explain the secong question as well. I'll keep an eye on this later when I fire the game up.

Yeah the best lap seem messed up sometimes. I believe the penalties are only for xbox live, so they don't hurt you in offline mode.

they hurt you in offline mode too. It reduces the amount of money you can win in a race. You win a lot more money if you don't crash into anything.

The penalty time itself doesn't hurt your earnings offline, as the penalties are handed out for more then just running into stuff. You aquire penalty time for anything the game reads as your car off the track (cutting the corner, through the dirt on the final turn at Laguna Seca is a good example). It does hurt your times posted to the Career Race leaderboards if you care about that.

The lap times at the end of races threw me off at first as well. The "Best/Fastest Lap Time" listed at the end of a race shows your best lap run with any penalty time for that lap applied (as that best lap is the one you submit to the leaderboards.....race clean if you care about lap times). The "Race Total Time" or however its worded is your total race time with no penalty time applied. An easy way to see this for your self is to run a P2P race as thats only one lap.....you'll see what I'm refering to.

Penalty time is given out for crashes of all types, anything deemed off-track by the game (this varies track to track, section to section.....some places it means if you put all fours on the dirt, other areas it means taking just a bit too much of that bumper strip), as well as on-track bumping or "race rubbin'" deemed as over aggressive by the game.
