Agreed. I don't know if fearwhatnow is playing on very hard or not, but at least for me on very hard the CPU still plays by the old rules and can hit amazing shots and angles w/o UEs, while I'm playing by the new rules. This update seemed aimed mainly at online play, which is good, the game is better now online, but offline now for me is unplayable since the CPU still makes few errors and can hit the crazy angled shots that the user can't anymore after the update. It has nothing to do with not playing tactically enough since I mix my game up plenty, and everything to do w/ the update throwing the balance between the user and AI out of whack.

Re: New Top Spin 4 Balancing Update
I'd agree that the update has thrown my game off. I'm not at all a fantastic player but I used to have challenging matches when I should (near or above my level) and easier games when I should (3+ levels below mine). However, I (level 11) just got SMOKED by a level 5 CPU player in my first match since the update. It used to be that, unless my stamina was getting low, I could use control shots to help right the ship, especially in a match like that. Now, I seem to hit those out just as much as my power shots. It's not terrible but it's almost like there was an invisible wall that kept most of those control shots in and it's suddenly been taken away. Again, I'm no expert at this game but it's "nice" to see that others are having the same hiccups and it's not just me having to recover from some time off.
And yes, I've seen the CPU hit some crazy shots as well. As others have mentioned, I can see my excitement and time spent on this game dwindling after this update. That's unfortunate, too...I really enjoyed playing this one. Hope I can get used to it or they can tweak it back a little more toward how it was before. I'm all for tuning gameplay but this seems like a completely different game...and not in the "refreshing update" way either.PSN: JWGoNDComment

Re: New Top Spin 4 Balancing Update
played Very Hard again the past 2 days and am starting to get the hang of it, even managed to win 2 of 5 matches against the CPU. I still have some minor complaints about stuff the CPU can do and I can't but after a good bit of games I' m finding it's not as bad as I initially found.
I haven't played online since the update but I figure this is gonna help curb people from always picking Rafa everytime and being able to hit incredible shots on the run while tracking down balls almost every other player isn't able to get to.
Make's it a much more skill-based and cerebral game. If anyone is on 360 and still plays and wants some good competition, shoot me a friend req, my gamertag is The Visualizer.

Re: New Top Spin 4 Balancing Update
As I posted before I'm playing mostly on Hard and I keep my player at Level 12 to keep things interesting.
I see complaints that a level 8 player or so defeats yours level 11 player. How is that bad? That is totally realistic. Then I don't understand the "Cpu hits this crazy unstoppable shots".Even after the balancing update Human Player has the biggest advantage of hitting those shots which Cpu is unable to defend.
Also stamina drain is significally bigger for cpu than the hum player even on Very Hard.
I don't want to sound like an arrogant or an expert but I'm sure you'll all find after 4-5 full set games that the game is better now.
- Mix your shots.Use slice when you feel you need time to reposition.
- Don't try to aim for the corners every time.
- Keep pressuring the backhand of some cpu players even if you feel you have an opportunity for a baseline power top spin shot winner.
- Don't try to chase all cpu shots and give away some points in favor of cpu especially when he's on serve.
- Play some bad games on a set trying to experiment tactically. This will confuse the cpu.
I'm a real life tennis player and this is the first tennis game which really amazes me with its gameplay depth.Comment

As for unrealistic, how's this: CPU is at the net, I play a shot to her forehand volley that she reaches for and is off balance afterward. I hit a power shot cross court but she somehow recovers to return it and win the point.
The bottom line is that I'm fine losing. That's not my issue so much as I played a very similar match to how I had been playing before the update and couldn't do anything at all. Tuning is fine and I know that I shouldn't expect to play every match the EXACT same way (what fun would that be?) but when it feels like I just picked up the controller for the first time, it's a bit too drastic for my tastes.PSN: JWGoNDComment

Re: New Top Spin 4 Balancing Update
The one thing I hate about this game is the super boost the cpu players get once you reach the semifinals of a tournament. I just played the All-Stars tournament and won all 3 round robin games just fine. I guess I got lucky in the semifinals as I had Federer as my opponent, who is pretty easy to beat in this game. But then, of course, I had to play Nadal in the finals (I beat him earlier during the round robin), but this time I totally get obliterated. I have to say though, the few points I got felt pretty good. But that doesn't help if I can't win a single Grand Slam tournament. I guess I'll have to drop down to Hard for the semifinals and finals if this goes on. I'll keep trying on Very Hard for now though.
Anyway, to me it didn't seem like the update changed the level of difficulty all that much. Timing is more important, thats for sure, but I also saw the cpu get more errors than usually. The balancing still is off as well I guess, as Nadal is still twice as hard to beat than Federer.Comment

Re: New Top Spin 4 Balancing Update
I am having some hiccups too.
I am not struggling at all until I get into the Grand Slams. I know it's supposed to be harder but before the update I won my first Grand Slam in 2 tries. However, after the update I have played through 4 Grand Slams and Murray has swept me out of all of them in the Quarters or Semis. I have a Speed guy and I always play tactically but my guy just cannot make shots anymore. I have been hitting a ton of UE's even with Good timing. Murray is able to just run me back and forth all game long. I try to keep him in the middle of the court at some points but he will STILL hit some great angle shots.
My Speed character also seems to lose stamina at the same rate as my opponent, but I am the only one penalized shot-wise. Every other game me and Murray will both be out of stamina and I will be mashing slice shots (With slice invasion) and he will simply return them easily. Re: New Top Spin 4 Balancing Update
I'm seeing the benefits to the new patch - it's made Hard very competitive. I was killing everyone on Hard, so I didn't focus on getting XPs because I wanted to keep it as competitive as I could, then bumped up to Very Hard right around the time of the new patch and was getting murdered. Now, I'm back on Hard and mostly enjoying it, but since I don't really have many XPs and high ratings, I'm struggling in most matches but winning about half of them. It annoys me that the computer can hit angles I cannot, but whatever, it's mostly fun.
One area I have complaints about in the game is the overall career mode. I think starting off with crappy opponents got me into bad habits, then I started playing better ones and had to adjust. Then I was getting successful, and they changed the game up and made it harder. So it hasn't been a real level flow to my career - for good and bad.
Like I said earlier, I wasn't focused on getting too many XPs, so now I'm more or less screwed if I want to improve. Worse, because you have to overcome so many obstacles to be able to play Grand Slams, I ended up missing months at a time b/c I couldn't play them and didn't want to play any more minor tourneys. So, in the last 12 months, my ranking has plummeted from #10 to #36 even though I'm doing okay, I just didn't get any opportunities to win points for 4-5 months of the past 12. So now I'm stuck facing Federer or Nadal second round of every Grand Slam.
I'll get off my soapbox now. I find this game irritating as hell and fantastic all at once. It's giving me a fun, roller coaster career (fittingly, I created Gael Monfils), but I wonder at some point if I'll just snap and trade the game in out of frustration.Comment

Re: New Top Spin 4 Balancing Update
I think the game is great, I just can't serve. Or at least, the line judges seem to be on the take, because I swear I am nailing the line, and it looks like the hit right on the line and my opponent flys off the court to try and return it, but no, FAULT!! Re: New Top Spin 4 Balancing Update
I need some help guys. I created a serve and volley CAP and reached level 20. Now that I am level 20, the first thing I want to do is create an offensive baseline CAP, how do I do that and have him be level 20? I know that once you have one player reach level 20, you can create another one and have them automatically become level 20, but I can't seem to figure out how to make it work. I tried creating a new guy, but he is level 0 and I can't see how to make him level 20.
An idea:
1. Does it matter if I create the new CAP within the Career mode or not? For example, from the main menu there is a creation zone, if I want a guy to automatically be level 20 instead of having to take him through the career mode to get there do I have to make him in the creation zone or does it matter?
Thanks for the help if anyone knows the answer!DSM Transfer.
