Looks like 'Paper Mario' is due out VERY soon! It's already been released in Japan and Europe on the VC...

I'm 50% sure i'll be opening up Toy R Us next Sunday morning when they get a shipment of 26 Nintendo Wii's. If I pick one up, what accessories do I need? Is WiFi built in? I know component cables would help. My TV only has 2 sets of component jacks. Is there any decent component selectors out there that would allow me to hook up multiple components?

WiFi is built into the system and works pretty well.

I think Best Buy has a pretty good system selector that runs about a hundred bucks...I'm sure a lot of people here have them. As for the component cables, I have the generic ones from Wal-mart (I think they are Psyclone or something) and they work fine.

As for accessories, you'll need the classic controller if you plan on downloading games from the VC, and it's always nice to have extra remotes and nunchucks (at least they are now readily available).

                Enjoy!

                        You were correct...

                        New releases:

Paper Mario (Nintendo 64, 1 player, 1,000 Wii Points): A spiritual successor to Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, this game is, frankly, fantastic. It combines some really solid RPG mechanics with visual panache. Consider it required downloading if you haven't been through it.

Balloon Fight (NES, 1-2 players, 500 Wii Points): Though it may not be as glitzy as Paper Mario, Balloon Fight is still undeniably a classic. The only question is if you'll be willing to part with five bucks for a game that was not only playable in Animal Crossing, but was also, at one point, stored on playing cards.

Silent Debuggers (TurboGrafx16, 1 player, 600 Wii Points): Hey, we warned you, please be nice, this has been a tough day. ... Oh, you're laughing now. That's great. Listen, maybe you're just rushing to judgment. We've embedded a gameplay video after the break, maybe you'll watch it and see that you were wrong all along. She's a totally radical first-person shooter, you'll see!

Actually, instead of the classic controller, I recommend a Gamecube Wavebird. Gives you easy wireless control, and combined with the WiiMote, allows you to play all the VC games wirelessly, with ease, and without having to plug the classic controller into the WiiMote.

If you are playing any GC games (I bought the Zelda compilation disk - all Zelda games on the GC through Ocarina of Time - a bargain compared to paying for all of them on VC), go grab a GC memory card off ebay for $4 or $5. You can't save GC games onto the system memory or an SD card.

You probably don't need an SD card at first, but when I got my Wii I copped a cheap Sandisk 2GB SD card online for $15. That way you will never run out of storage, combined with the 500MB or so on the system memory.

Wii Play with the extra WiiMote bundled is a prime recommendation - the game itself is only $10 when you consider the cost of a standalone WiiMote, and it will give you a bunch of extra mini-games for casual play. That combined with Wii Sports is more than enough to entertain family members or non-gamers. You will need an extra WiiMote anyway.

1 extra nunchuk for that second WiiMote.

I grabbed first person Nintendo components (not sure if they are available in the US) off some guy from ebay for only $18. They work great. I can send you his user ID if you are interested - I think he has a connnection to Asia, and imports them with ease.
Been gaming since the Atari 2600, and hells no I won't stop!!!

Just got a Wii off craigslist. I don't have a manual and I am Wii incompetent so I apologize for the following.....

                                1. How is the system supposed to sit? Standing up?

                                2. Only WiFi? No ethernet connection?

                                3. What exactly is a memory card? Is it a USB flash drive? Does not have to be Nintendo brand?

                                4. Nunchuck in which hand? Remote in which?

I think that is it for now. I truly appreciate guidance. Thanks!
