I'd have to run about 50 ft of wire, not really something I want to do. Might have to though..

Edit: Got this from PS3 forums..this guy is having the exact same problem.

"I have the Linksys WRT54GS v.5 with the most recent firmware update 1.52.0 and after updating the PS3 firmware to 1.8 it instantly kills my connection between my router and my ISP anytime I try to access anything online with the PS3 (Test Connection, Playstation Store, Internet Browser, or even at login on power-up).

After it kills my connection and I re-establish it I've tried numerous setting in the PS3 Network Settings and so far nothing has worked.

At first it always failed at Internet Connection with DNS Error (80710101) but after manually entering my primary and secondary DNS I can get it to proceed a bit further before it knocks me off and gives me error 80130208."

so have you already connected to the internet once with your PS3? I was under the impression you hadn't connected at all. If you haven't connected then it's unrelated to you as the issue has to do with the 1.80 update.

Found a quick fix for it, I disabled the Media Server connect, and everything is back to normal. Hopefully I'll get a better fix soon.

so have you already connected to the internet once with your PS3? I was under the impression you hadn't connected at all. If you haven't connected then it's unrelated to you as the issue has to do with the 1.80 update.

Yes, I connected and got the update. Installed the update, and this problem. Guys over at the PS3 forums said to disable the media server and it'll straighten out. So far, it has.

Found a quick fix for it, I disabled the Media Server connect, and everything is back to normal. Hopefully I'll get a better fix soon.

I had to do that same thing. Same router. If I try to do the media connect or went on the PSN store, my router died, killing all my connections. I turned off the media connect (since it wouldn't work anyway) and I'm fine. I didn't realize other's had the same issue. Interesting.

Well my PS3 is dead. While playing The Show it just shut off. Light stays red and the PS3 just beeps. I'll leave everything unplugged overnight and see what happens tomorrow but tomorrow probably I'll exchange it for a new one.

All my saves gone probably. From now on I'm making backups on my PC.

All North American PS3s have the same hardware as the ones released at launch. Only the European consoles at this time are the ones that removed the PS2 chips and went to software emulation.

Can anyone else confirm this? I believe that several months ago, I read multiple articles that said the North American PS3's were also removing the PS2 chip effectively immediately. I thought about trying to buy a PS3 at that time to get one with a chip still in it, but my local gamestop guy wasn't sure if they still had it. If they still have a PS2 chip and are going to be removing them in the future, I may pick up a PS3 before that change (which I thought had already occured.)

No he's right, NA/Japan change over will take affect once they have implemented the soft emu to a 90% range, and currently Europe is at 70 some odd percent and growning. NA/Japan, you're probably good until the Fall/Winter.

I have seen some info on hooking up an IPOD to the PS3, but it seems conflicting unless I am reading old articles. Can it be done, and can you see the specific info on the PS3 end? Any tips?

Here ya go Poster IPOD work around.

IPOD work around

#1: Plug you Ipod into your PS3.

#2: Go to the music section and scroll down to USB Device (Ipod)

#3: Press triangle then click display all.

#4: Click Ipod Central then wait a second until you see music.

#5: Press Music then you will see F00 proceeding by F01 and onward.

#6: Now click F00 and you will see a list of songs.

#7: Now scroll over the song you wish to download and click triange.

#8: Now a menu will come up. Press copy.

#9: Now your song will download to your PS3. This should take less then 3 seconds.

#10: Now press circle and proceed to do the same for the rest of the songs you wish to download.

#11: When done click circle until you are back at the main music section.

#12: Disconnect your Ipod and you will see all of the song listed by albums.


The only thing that sucks about doing it this way is that you can only download one song at a time which can take a while if you have 500 songs like me. I bet sony did this on purpose so that you wouldnt take up your whole hard drive if you have a 30 gb Video like me. You can speed it up by downloading the whole folder or multiple songs from the same folder.

For example: While scrolling over F00 or any other folder press triangle then click copy and it should download everything in that folder or (my favorite) while scrolled over a song in the folder press triangle and then press up. You should see (copy multiple). Click it and select the songs you wish to download from that folder then click (OK). You should be good to go.

If you want to download your videos all you have to do if follow these same directions. Even direction #'s 4 and 5. (you have to click music) wierd I know. When you go into the folder and select the video watch it to make sure you know which video it is first. With mine the names were all messed up.

If you wish you can sort everything by artist. To do this you must scroll over one of the albums (any one) then click triangle and press up. You should be scrolled over (Group Content) if you are then press right and click which option you choose to search your music under. Press X and you should be good to go. The same should be good for videos. Except it should say (sort by) instead.

If you wish to edit the information that the song/video has posted then scroll over the song you wish to edit then click triangle then scroll down till you see (information). Click it and scroll down each item and press X to edit that information.

Everything I have shown you here today is based on my setup. I have a 30gb Ipod video, a PS3 60gb, and a USB connector cord.

This is all of the info I have found so far. I will update it with more info as I find it or you can help out and post what you have found.

I hope this is very valuble to everyone who has read it. I know it is long but it is definetly worth it. Please dont delete this because it took me like 45 minutes to write and I missed South Park.

Hmmmm. I might have to talk to the wife about buying now in that case. The plan was to wait until Christmas time and take advantage of a possible price drop before the holiday season. However, I trust hardware over software emulation and we have a lot of old PS2 games.

Keep in mind that there's a rumor floating around that Sony will eventually turn off all hardware emulation via a firmware update. So if that's true in doesn't matter whether you have a launch system or one built in 2008 they will emulate PS1/PS2 games via software emulation.

That's just a rumor I read making the rounds on the playstation forums.

It did! Just enough time to transfer my saves over to flash drive. After that played The Show for two minutes and crashed again so I will exchange this later this evening.

Thanks for the info, even though it is just a rumor. I'll search through some forums and see if I can find more info on that. I'm happy with my 360 and the issue of hardware emulation would be a major factor on whether or not I wait for a price drop and some more exclusives before getting the PS3. Lots of good info in this thread.
