Here is a pic of the intercooler, I guess Nyko never learned from the 360 meltdowns by having this thing powered by the system. I'm staying away from this one this time.

Gotta tell ya, i still have the 360 intercooler on and i have had no problems. Going on 10 months and no issues what-so-ever

Me too and it works great so far. The power cord never gets hot!

My intercooler never had issues, but after seeing fried up intercoolers I decided to take it off.

I am of the camp, that just because it happens to a few, doesn't mean it will happen to me.

Yeah me too.
But that is why I got the two year warranty plan at Best Buy.

I took mine off because since it's winter it's not as hot in the house and i haven't had any problems so far and this is a launch console

I had one on my original 360 and it died after 11 months, I put it on the second 360, then took it off. I have since put it back on and do notice my system does stay a lot cooler.

Third-party accessory manufacturer Nyko debuted a diverse collection of gear for the PlayStation 3 at CES this year to address all manner of gamers' needs for the console. Building upon the retail success of the company's auxiliary cooling system for the Xbox 360, Nyko announced and showed the Intercooler PS3. The 2-part unit adds 5 extra cooling fans to the PS3 chassis, yet succeeds in maintaining the PS3's glossy and stylish aesthetics. The company has identified two key heating zones of the console and address each via single large fan on the top/right side of the console (depending on the PS3's vertical or horizontal orientation) and four cooling fans along the back side to supplement the system's internal fans.

Like the 360 version of the product, the Intercooler PS3 is powered via passing the main PS3 power cord through the device, a necessity, we learned, due to the insufficient capabilities of USB powered cooling fans. Users will be able to adjust the speed of the cooling fans manually depending upon the situation, i.e. high for system-taxing gaming and lower for more relaxed movie viewing. The product will launch soon and will retail between $19.99 or $29.99.
