Do you take the Wii seriously?

Ive been having this debate with some friends of mine.

My personal stance is that i dont take the Wii as a serious gaming console. Outside of Zelda and Metriod most of the games on the Wii seem like simplistic Mini/party games designed to take advantage of teh Wimote. I have had plenty of fun playing those games but i would never by them on my own.

When it comes to more serous games like a splinter cell, or fighting games and especially sports games, the Wii wseems like it will be left in the dust. Its not nearly as visually powerful, but most of all tryig to controll games that require more than 3-4 buttons is a serious task especially when your dealing with fast twitch gameplay

So to me the Wii has definately accomplished its goal of expanding the game market, i have seen 45 year old women buying it for themselves. But i also think by doing so they abandoned a large portion of gamers who want more than a few amusing mini games.

after i buy one and beat Metriod and Zelda it will probably be start collecting dust.

What do you guys think?

It's all about fun and gameplay for me. If I wanted to play something with good graphics or more "serious" I'll play the 360 or upgrade my PC.

I enjoy Madden on the Wii also.

I only bought the system for Nintendo 1st party games. They are still the best in the business.

I've played the Wii with some friends, and it's decent. I would never consider buying one myself.

Yeah what games do you enjoy? I have zelda which...its zelda, I have fun with it. The wii sports gets old unless you have a group of people around playing. WHat other titles out right now would you recomend? I like the wii but I think the 360 holds my attention more, with the exception of zelda.

I'm sort of tired seeing all the video game snobbery around here. Just because the Wii is cheaper and doesn't have the most powerful graphics doesn't mean you can't enjoy games. I like the Wii because it is innovative and not the same repackaged crap with a new coat of paint.

The Wii is here to stay, and I have no desire to play any other console anymore.

I agree with your statement, but one thing that needs to be done is that more original titles need to be released to really take advantage of the term innovation. Games like Wario Ware, Wii Play, Wii Sports, Trauma Center, Elebits, etc. are going to lead the pack, not games like The Godfather which is a PS2/XBOX game and it's getting rehashed with new controls.

Madden, to me, is simply amazing on the system. I've never had so much fun with the game since the Genesis days. I'm having fun with it, the game plays great, and has all the stuff I missed from the PS2/XBox versions, that the 360/PS3 versions don't have.

Excitetruck might be the most underrated game on the system. Very short, but an absolute amazing racer.

Red Steel, once you get the controls down, this game is actually good. The reviews tore it up, I can see why, but if you just go into it with an open mind, you can have fun with it.

Zelda, nuff said.

Rayman, possibly the most fun party game besides Wii Sports that I've played in forever.

Elebits, gets old, but fun in small doses, great game, fun, innovative game play.

Tony Hawk, Great downhill racer, makes me realize that SSX Blur is going to be insane on the Wii.

And, I have spent hours and hours making Mii's.

For me, the Wii is the best "next gen" system. I love my 360 for the graphics, achievements, and online play. I love my PS3 for the Blu Ray player, and games to come. But I love my Wii for the fun my family and I have had non stop on it over the last 3 weeks. Anything that gets my wife coming home and saying "let's play videogames" is enough for me to realize how great of a system it is.

More power too you people who have been thouroghly enjoying the Wii. Im not saying that you shouldnt.

I just personally feel that a lack of graphical power, not too mention proscessing power, and the design of the controller, and a lack of immersive and deep games (Metriod and Zelda withstanding) i just dont take it seriously. I mean half of their launch and alot of the games commin down the line are simplistic mini game complimations.

You dont have any wish to play any other console..

I wouldnt even say that, will you still feel that way when Tekken 6 comes out, Halo 3, Madden (well this may not be all that great), Metal Gear solid 4, Resident evil 5, Whatever future Grandtheft auto game that comes down the pike, etc?

thank you....graphics don't make good games. It seems like every FPS game that comes out on Xbox 360 or PS3 is the same FPS that we have seen the last ten years except it is just a little longer and it looks a little better. However Red Steel is a totally different game then we have ever seen on a console (minus Duck Hunt).
