    360 users - The "Strict NAT" problem

    Anyone else had this issue? I'm using a Netgear WGR614 router and I have a NAT that always says "STRICT". I've tried opening ports, putting the IP in the DMZ, etc but it always says strict. I'm thinking of getting the DGL-4300 router if I can't fix this but so far no luck. My issue is I see no friends online on Xbox 360 or very little friends online (like on my computer I'll see 15 friends online but on Xbox live i'll only see 4 friends online). I don't have any issues joining games or talking to anyone though.

    I'm going to try to upgrade my firmware and see if that helps, as the firmware version suggested for the Netgear to be Xbox Live compatible is higher than what I have. But I was wondering if anyone else out there is using Netgear and had this problem and managed to fix it?

          I used to own that router and got the strict NAT, then I updated the firmware and it opened it up. Just update the FW and it should work.

              Re: 360 users - The "Strict NAT" problem

              I'm having a problem with the private voice chat. Both mine and my friends NAT is "open" still we can't voice chat.
              Is this a problem with Microsoft? I can chat with him in lobbys and in games but not through the private chat.
              This makes no sense. This has to be a Microsoft issue.
              My router is Linksys WRT54G. Both of us have the latest firmware too.
              Anyone else have this problem or a solution?

                Try enabling UPnP on your router to troubleshoot the issue. I bet it works with this feature turned on. With this on, disable any port forwarding you have set up for your XBox for the moment to see if UPnP works or not.

                  upnp is currently enabled on my end and was before I opened the ports. The private chat didn't work before either.
                  I was told by xbox to enable ports 88 UDP, 3074 UDP, 3074 TCP to get the NAT problem from Strict to open. That worked but the Private chat still don't work.

                    Re: 360 users - The "Strict NAT" problem

                    You have to assign a Static IP for the 360 & manually input it that IP Address in the Networking section of the Dashboard. Your Router Provider is the-1 who assigns the Static IP.. This will change your NAT to OPEN allowing you to connect & host games

                    Hope this is helpful

                      There's a site out there that will walk you through it for any type of router. Let me see if I can find it.

                        Open ports on your router with our port forwarding guides. We have guides specific to your router.

                          I had a Strict Nat problem with my D-Link router before I fixed it.

                          For Netgear punch in these numbers:

                          * Netgear IP Address : 192.168.0.250
                          * Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0
                          * Gateway : 192.168.0.1
                          * DNS : 192.168.0.1

                            Thanks man, but not sure how much this will help. I do have my 360 assigned to a static IP of 192.168.1.7 and it always uses that, and then I have the ports forwarded to 192.168.1.7 (the 88, 3074, etc) but still same NAT problem. I even put the 192.168.1.7 in the DMZ zone and same issue. However on those screen shots I did notice that on one of them there is a NAT drop down box in the Netgear menu, something I do not have...i'm wondering if that will be there when I upgrade my firmware.

                              Punch those in where? And if you put this in the 360, which I'm thinking you mean, then don't you also have to adjust this stuff in your router itself?
