    Do Blu-Ray dvd's still look

fantastic in 1080i or 720p on the PS3? Or do you really need 1080p to fully enjoy Blu-Ray movies and games?

    Just wondering, I have a high-def plasma but it doesn't support 1080p.

    Thinking about buying a PS3.

They'll still look great. Difference between 1080i and 1080p is minimal from what I've read.

I was reading the same thing tonight and there won't be a big difference until HDMI 1.3 sometime later this year or next year.

I watch Blu Ray and HD DVD in 1080i, looks freaking amazing to me.

That is a very good point candyman. I was probably reading the same article as you some where. The PS3 is one of a select few that currently put out HDMI 1.3. The bad part is that even the BEST, HIGHEST dollar HDTV today does not accept HDMI 1.3, only HDMI 1.2. HDMI 1.2 offers I believe around 5 gigs bandwidth and can display a couple hundred million colors. However HDMI 1.3 can handle just over 10 gigs of bandwidth and deliver 1 billion colors. Once developers start using the PS3 to it's full potential of delivering that many colors and at 1080p 60fps, the games will be mind blowing. So hold off on buying a new TV for just a bit longer.

HDMI 1.3 TV's should be hitting later this year.

I feel like 1080P and HDMI 1.3 are going to not be a major factor until a few years down the road, unless something better comes along. lol!

I also read an article about LED's TV coming. They are supposed to be the TV of the future, forget LCD,DLP and plasma.

There was an LED powered DLP set out last year and it didn't score to well with reviewers. Hopefully the tech gets better.

Hence why I'm not buying a TV for a few years.

I ran into that PS3 problem with my other TV and that's one of the reasons why I bought the new TV and at such a good deal for the 1080P, I couldn't pass it up.

Like you, I probably would have waited till next year if it weren't for the downscale issue. Oh Well, I bought the TV now so it's over with. LOL!

I still have the Olevia which I moved upstairs into the living room. I bought the 50" Samsung DLP HLS5087W.
