360 or PS3

I'm sure this has been talked about endlessly here. I'm trying to make the decision now. The most compelling reason to me to get the 360 is dollars. I hear complaints about 360's fan, about the rings of death - and thus the need to get an extended warranty. At Circuit City, that warranty costs 100 dollars, which narrows the gap some btw the 2 systems.

I play NCAA football the most, and I know that the game will largely play the same on 360 and PS3. But I don't want to buy a less expensive machine that is going to break down or one that is going to be loud and annoying.

Thoughts?

the bestbuy 360 warranty is essentially the cost of a 360 game. I got that, and it is pretty much an essentially part of the system. You pay $399 for the premium, and might as well drop for a warranty. Getting it makes any potential problems moot.

I have both and like them about the same. Mind you I'm on my 3rd 360, and it is loud as hell. So loud that I ended up putting it in a media cabnet in my wall to quiet it. I do miss rumble on the PS3 and I love the 360 ability to stream stuff off my PC.

If you do get the 360 GET THE WARRENTY. Then the :rings of death aren't so bad.

PLEASE just go check out the hundreds of other 360 vs. PS3 threads instead. In the end you should make the decision yourself, and not let the many biased posts you will get here influence you.

If you play mainly NCAA Football and sports games, than the PS3 will suit best due to the fact that it is ridiculously fast and easy to transfer new roster and game saves from you computer to the PS3 and vice versa. You don't have that long annoying as hell process with the transfer kit, and you don't have to buy anything. Unless you don't have a flash drive which only cost about $5. Also the PS3 is so damn quiet its incredible. Compared to the 360 which is by far the loudest console I have ever heard. Another thing is that SO FAR the PS3's have been extremely stable and reliable, and the 360's are breaking down like mad. However if you are a huge online gamer, then throw all that out the window and get a 360 due to Xbox Live only. Hopefully the PSN can at least compete one of these days, but I don't see it happening.

I understand your frustration. I've read the hundreds of other threads on this subject but I remain confused.

Thanks to those who've responded, the opinions are helpful. I think I want a PS3 but my wife will kill me if she sees an 800 dollar price tag - after the system, wireless controller, games. 360 sounds fun and I may try online gaming, never done it before, but the loud system and the number of crashes has me wary.

As of now, 360 is the better system because of more game selection currently. Who knows what the future will hold.

But whatever system you get, you should get a warranty. 360 or PS3. And if money is a issue, go with the 360.

I'm with you PrimeTime. I just shipped my PS2 slim yesterday back to Best Buy yesterday, thanks for the 2 year replacement plan i bought. I'll be getting a gift card and will buy another new one.

I have a 360, but I would have got a ps3 if it only had better games. I personally don't care about their MLB game that's yet to come out, but I see the potential if they pick things up.

I agree with the other posters. It's a coin toss.

XBL and the great games like Gears of War plus the achievement system (which is genius) make the 360 fantastic.

The PS3's hardware is just fantastic. It's just lacking in the software department and its online service at this point. That will change eventually though. MotorStorm for example is stunning.

Tough call, but with games like Crackdown, Halo 3 and all the other stellar titles coming in 2007 (plus the sports games) a 360 would be hard to pass up because in the end these are gaming systems.

360, lower price, more games, and most importantly a lot more "better games" for now. As for the extended warranty, don't buy it at Best Buy, go to Target and buy one, someone said theirs was like $50-$60 plus they give you a store credit as to what you paid and not just another 360, so for example if the new black 360 with HDMI comes out and costs $500 you could take your 360 back and get $400 gift card, then buy the black 360 w/HDMI.
