    MS response to Home

GamesRadar+ takes you closer to the games, movies and TV you love.

The general manager of Microsoft's Game Developer Group told CVG this afternoon: "I think they've definitely taken some concepts that we originated like achievements, but I think they're pushing in a different direction and we've sort of fundamentally got two different approaches going on here."

"I think theres is very much a vision that people see it and it looks cool but it's fundamentally separate from the games - or at least what they've shown so far."

    Re: MS response to Home

Sounds like they're giving them some love for their initiative of innovation. It's like an idea that would have done well on XBL but isn't an XBL type of idea. If it does turn out good, then it'll definitely be worth a try. I just can't wait to see what the impressions are when it comes out officially. I don't think it'll last all that long, but then again I'm not sure. I don't have a hold of it and I'm not dealing with it on a regular basis. Very interesting stuff.......

      Re: MS response to Home

PS Home is like a virtual chatting room.

Also since we on MS, no more backwards compatibility in the future.

GDC: Xbox 360 Backwards Compatibility soon to be forgotten

      via GamePro

Microsoft plans to decrease focus on backwards compatibility in favor of concentrating on future Xbox 360 titles

It doesn't seem to be a good time for backwards compatibility, if one takes into account what Sony and Microsoft have had to say about the matter. While the downgrading of backwards compatibility on the PS3's European model made headlines across the world, very little has been stated recently on the progress to make more original Xbox games compatible with the Xbox 360.

Kotaku recently spoke with Microsoft rep Chris Satchell at the Microsoft Blogger Breakfast yesterday, and asked him about the status of future backwards compatibility updates. But, what he stated in response doesn't bode well for owners of Xbox games:

"At some point we're going to focus less on it. When you get to the end of this year there will be a reduced focus on backwards compatibility. There are so many 360 games out there. I don't know if it's important anymore."

It looks like backwards compatibility on next-gen consoles is turning out to be what it's supposed to be in the first place: a thing of the past.
Also, might as well post this to those expecting X360 to hit 20 mill this year..it is in Japan though

Japan Hardware Sales for February 26th to March 3rd

The latest numbers are in and a massive improvement for PSP and PS3:

      PSP: 66, 156 units
      Wii: 57,972 units
      PS3: 44,000 units
      PS2: 15,364 units
      Xbox 360: 3,379 units
      Game Boy Micro: 805 units
Game Boy Advance SP: 738 units
      GameCube: 303 units
      DS: 112 units

Seems like Sony will be pushing out BC as well. I read that they will be taking out the emulator period just like they took it out out of the European version to save money.

Sony need to quit worying about Backwards compatibility and worry about the lack of NEW games. Then they might start selling some ps3's.

Wii is what? Half the price of the PS3 and has a totally different fan base? I don't see Wii selling on a continuing base like they are selling now. It might be a strong system now with a strong two year plan, but three/four years down the road when the PS3/360 are hitting sales, I doubt Nintendo will be on top. Wii just isn't too next gen.

Hardcore gamers don't really look at it is as, hmm PS3/360 or Wii. They look at it as 360/PS3. And with a strong background of games and superb online service 360 is on top of that one. Sony will eventually catch up.

                  Re: MS response to Home

I hope so but right now it looks pretty bad. They were supposed to have a online service that was better than the 360. Now I didn't think that would happen, but I did think it would be better than what they have now.............and yes the Wii is selling well because of the price. The PS3 would of sold 2x as much by now if they sold a Blue Ray add on like MS did with the 360. Then sold the PS3 for $399. But they forced their Blue Ray on everyone, most who don't even have the ability to use it.

What would you think if PS3 came out and charged people for the online service? If it it improved drastically I wouldn't mind paying. Even charging half of XBL wouldn't be bad if they improved online speeds and features.

I would pay for it if it was improved, definitely.

One thing I don't get is that with last-gen, everyone was complaining that PS2 needed add-ons to get X Functionality to work unlike the X-Box which already had it out of the box. Now that the PS3 is offering something out of the box unlike the 360 which needs an add-on to do so, everyone's complaining it's being shoved in their face.

What's the deal? It practically costs the same if you make the HD-DVD standard on the 360. I own a 360 and I'm quite happy with it and I plan to get a PS3 soon. I just don't understand the double-standard.

Because they were the same price (ps2 and xbox). But the HD-DVD is not standard and at least you have an option. I would be pissed if the 360 costs $599 and the Hd-DVD was built in.

Well sony dubbed it as the xbox live killer and had all these plans to have every xbox live has plus more.
