Re: Pre-Order pushers
The funny but sad thing is that what he said in that blog/article is more true than you could possibly ever want to know. Every gamestop I go to is like that more or less. The people there look like something out of a bad 1990 teen "B movie". and they DO zone out.
I remember all the times long ago and very recent that I will go in buying exactly what I wanted. I knew what I was going to get before I showed up. Asked for it, and while they are ringing me up they are trying to push me to reserve ___insert hot upcomming title that wont hit shelves for anotehr 10 months___. Then when I tell them im not interested they go through that speech that borders on the side of "warning" me that because I did not pre purchase it right then and there Ill never get a copy when it comes out. Just last week I picked up Shadowrun and the dude asked me "would you like to pre order Halo 3" and before I could give a response he gives me that Monty Hall lets make a deal look and says in a cheesy gameshow host voice "Our stores alone have already resevred over 6 million copies" lol......
I chuckle, and not on the inside. I let him see that I think what he's telling me is hilarious. Then because I happened to buy a FPS game, hes trying to get me to buy that Chernobyle game for PC. They kill me. Since then I have had a t-shirt designed that says "Shut up and sell me what I asked for". and ive worn it in there before. Other customres laugh and chuckle. Whats sad is, some clerks look dead at me and go through the "add on sale" routine.
I will tell you this though, they ARE programmed...and it comes from corporate office. How do i know this? Because when I was 20 and in college I managed a Babbabes (now Gamestop) store and every sunday we had to call in to the district office the number of game reserves and pre orders we got. Also there is a thing called the MST for Multiple Sku Transaction. They are told they HAVE to push addons onto you. When they dont hit thier numbers, thier stores dont get perks like free copies of games from the companies for the empoyees and managers, no free systems, etc which is why wen you tell them no, they look at youlike you just banged thier mom, sister, and shot thier dog.__________________________________________________ ____

Re: Pre-Order pushers
Dude I eat sleep and breathe that mess. I have to educate peeps in the office about Little Brother, 9th, Nicolay, Foreign Exchange, jean Grae. I had to break down the whole concept of the Foreign Exchange. Everyone down here in TX wants to listen to Mike Jones, Paul Wall, and ____insert any other cookie cutter artist who cant talk about anything but cars, rims, and grills____"
I might head down to Austin in a few weeks and catch Little Brother. Its a shame they parted ways with 9th. I expect LB's new album to have a totally different sound. Kinda scares me though.__________________________________________________ ____

Re: Pre-Order pushers
some are funny but some are kinda scary...I've seen a few where the guy complains the employee is dumb with stuff like "OMG, FFIII came out for Famicom, not Super Famicom, that guy is stupid"
I know i'm a serious gamer, but if I ever start acting like that customer I'll have to kick my own ***.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: Pre-Order pushers
Pre-Order pushing is the new standard in ALL of retail. Those companies see it for what it is... guaranteed money. If they know they have your pre-order money, more than likely you'll be back.
As for the Gamestop/EB chain. It's mandatory. If you don't get X amount of pre-orders, trade ins (people actually trading games in), or have enough UPT's (Units Per Transaction). Ideally the mother company wants a game sold (preferably used) a trade in from you and a pre-order (or two).
I feel bad for most of the people working in these stores.
Don't blame the company for who they hire, but the managers.BeyondMediaOnline.comComment
