Strange error from 360

I have a 360 purchased last November. Have been playing NBA 2K7 for a couple of weeks with no problems. Last night, I put the game in, it wouldn't load and I received a message similar to "In order to play this disc, please insert in an XBox 360 console." Well, it is in a 360 console. Later, I got more common messages that it couldn't read the disc. I looked at the disc and it doesn't have a scratch on it that I could see. Other games seem to load ok. I'm going to take the NBA game to Gamestop and see if their unit will play it tonight.

Anyway...has anyone else encountered the first message I mentioned above? Is this a sign of upcoming problems or more of a random issue?

I had this problem with Madden07. The disk(Used) had some minor scratches so I didn't think it was the disk. After checking more I found a small crack right in the center of the disk. Took it back and all was well.

I also had a Godfather disk that did this on my 360 but not my nephews 360. His was a newer model and mine is a launch 360.

I would try another disk first then see about replacing the 360.

I had that happen once or twice with choops2k7 when I first got it. But after the 1st week it never did it again.

I've had this happen with nba2k7 a few times. I think you need to get your disc cleaned.

It makes you wonder who the hell came up with that error message. Like someone is going to go, "Ya know what, WOW! I'm such a *******. I guess I put my 360 game in the wrong console!"

If its just one game and infrequent I wouldn't worry about it. I get that message, but very infrequently. Except with on my first 360 I got that message right off the bat and it was happening with all my games (I had 4 at the time) and very frequently. I called MS and they told me to send it in.

Dude, the 360 just sucks. I'm not saying that as some PS3 fanboy or something, but reading this thread just reminds me of the time I spent with this kind of garbage back when I had one. Needless to say, it's dead now. Big surprise there, I'm sure.

Anyway, yes, I saw that error message quite often, as well as dirty disc errors, and in both cases I just opened and closed the tray or rebooted. Annoying, but never too much of an issue. More of a waste of time than anything.
