Peter Moore's Open Letter to the 360 Community

    Read it here.

    Main Highlight:
As of today, all Xbox 360 consoles are covered by an enhanced warranty program to address specifically the general hardware failures indicated by the three flashing red lights on the console. This applies to new and previously-sold consoles. While we will still have a general one year console warranty (two years in some countries), we are announcing today a three-year warranty that covers any console that displays a three flashing red lights error message. If a customer has an issue indicated by the three flashing red lights, Microsoft will repair the console free of charge -- including shipping -- for three years from the console’s purchase date. We will also retroactively reimburse any of you who paid for repairs related to problems indicated by this error message in the past. In doing so, Microsoft stands behind its products and takes responsibility to ensure that every Xbox 360 console owner continues to have a fantastic gaming experience.

Re: Peter Moore's Open Letter to the 360 Community

Fix the problem with the design. So basically, we plan on failures so don't worry we will fix it. That doesn't solve any issues about the console, its just a fix it plan. This is good for them to offer a 3 year plan and it probably puts some minds at ease, but it still doesn't adress the desing flaws, the warranty compensates for it and hopefully a rememdy is in the near future. I would have been more impressed with them coming out talking about how they fix the problem and not put a band aid on it.

so for those of us with working 360's should we send it in anyways? you know, to take advantage of these improvements and that it wont inevitably die?

I'm stunned. I never would have expected to see this kind of accountability from a large company like M$, this will be huge for them with customer loyalty.

                    way to go.

I'm happy with the games, I'd just like my console to work. Covering a console for 3 years from purchase date for free is going to put a lot of people at ease.

I don't have my reciept either, but I would think that since the 360 has been out under 2 years they'd just take anyone's, and it'd only become more of an issue after the 3 year anniversary.

I only bought mine for convenience. Now that this one is for 3 years and free, I'd probably let the retail stores keep their warranties. Also, the warranty I bought from best buy was 59.99 for one time use.

Damn, the consoles have been built like **** so far but at least Microsoft has been willing to pay for all the repairs.
