    360 vs. PS3

ive been playing ncaa for years now im the type that has to get it every year so i can have accurate rosters cuz i love playin dynasty mode. anyways ive been playing it on the original xbox lately mainly since rosters are easier to get for it. Since the PS3 came out, ive decided to move on to a next gen console, but the question is which one? I pretty much only play sports game like ncaa, madden, tiger woods and baseball, and ocassionally i like to play socom (which is why im leanin towards PS3). but from what ive been hearing theres a lot of goods and bads for both but i still cant make my mind up.

if ya'll got any suggestions, please id like to hear them

another quick thing is ive been hearin a lot of legal issues with roster sharing latley. im the guy that has to have the real names in the game, so i dont know at this point which console would be easier to get those rosters.

    thank you

If you play online then get 360. Also NCAA for ps3 is only 30 fps versus 60 for the 360. I bought a ps3 2 months ago and rarely use it other than playing MLB The Show.

      Re: 360 vs. PS3

XBOX 360's are prone to breaking. My 360 broke on me after 5-7 months after a bought it.

Now I own a PS3 and had my 360 replaced with a brand new one that I have not used but I'm gonna sell it or trade it in torwards some PS3 games.

        Re: 360 vs. PS3

Right now, I would say 360 is the better console. Live is by far the greater online community, there is a wider selection of games, and like mainstar said, the football games right now are 60 fps.

With that said, I still think PS3 is the better buy. If you have an HDTV, you should definately think hard about the PS3, since Blu-Ray is gonna explode within a year or two (alot of the big companies are dropping the HD-DVD for Blu-Ray. Also, Blockbuster is going to be carrying Blu-Ray in their stores as opposed to the HD-DVD). Also, buy the Christmas time, there are going to be alot of games coming out for the PS3 (i.e. Haze, Warhawk, SOCOM, and GT5 next year).

You can't go wrong with either, but I personally think the 60GB at $499 is the best deal.

          Re: 360 vs. PS3

A high up at at EA said they would produce upcoming titles on the PS3 and port them to 360. The CEO later downplayed that remark although not denying it. (perhaps it was untrue, perhaps he didn't want to alienate Microsoft, perhaps nothing is set in stone).

          This year alone...
          360=60fps
          PS3=Easy roster sharing

Madden will be 60fps on both consoles although it may mean the PS3 version will take a dip in graphics to accomplish that.

360 is the clear winner for now, maybe next year that will change but i'd go with what you know..

Some NCAA producer said it. It is still highly UNconfirmed right now though.

The 360 gets my vote for all of the above.

I don't want to start a 360 vs. PS3 war or anything, but we've had so many of these topics and one of only things that people say is good about the PS3 is Blu-Ray. I'll tell you what, I want a VIDEOGAME console. If I'm going strictly by games, its 360 and its a no-brainer. I don't need an all-encompassing technology box, I want something that I can play the best games on. 360 hands down.

                            Neither for now.

PS3 is too expensive and not enough games.

360 hardware needs a major revision.

I will get one of these this Xmas, because of the games, it will likely be a 360. I would already have one if I were willing to accept defective hardware. I am not, so I wait.

If you like NCAA & being able to get rosters, I would double check info on the 360. From what I know ever since the Spring Dashboard Update Roster Sharing has been LOCKED.. on 360 consoles

There's a thread on the whole problem some where here @ OS, but here's an article for your reading pleasure:

Ready for sports-gaming Armageddon? EA Sports may have some explaining to do.

NCAA Football 08, the highly-anticipated football game by EA Sports, has found its way onto some stores’ shelves, despite the fact that it’s not supposed to be there until the 17th. Such is the nature of street dates.

Nevertheless, the major issue that’s certain to rankle sports gamers is not the seemingly-random availability of the game, but this:

On the Xbox 360, NCAA Football 08 roster files cannot be shared. At all. They can’t be transferred from profile to profile, even on the very same console.

In Microsoft’s Spring Update to the Xbox 360, the Redmond-based giant chose to lock down (with no prior warning) thousands of Xbox 360 consoles that posted save files in an effort to tamp down cheating and discourage the use of Datel’s unlicensed-but-legal Xchange device. Caught in the web were roster-makers; sports gamers that have no specific interest in cheating, but are instead interested in making their games as realistic as possible and sharing their efforts with fellow sports fans to enhance their enjoyment of the game as well.

These gamers form a community; no different than the “modding” communities prevalent - and often embraced by game publishers - on the PC. In the case of NCAA Football, gamers often work together at large, discussion-board-based sites like OperationSports.com to name the unnamed players in the game. The NCAA, per its regulations as an amateur organization, does not allow players’ names in retail versions of their licensed products, but regardless of manufacturer, the NCAA has always permitted these players to be edited in-game, allowing dedicated fans to do the (non-profit) legwork for themselves; building knowledgeable real-life fans in the process.

But as Mark explained in May, this capricious decision by Microsoft risked fracturing this user base, potentially driving customers away from the Xbox 360 and towards the rival PlayStation 3 instead - something that I discussed with Microsoft’s Larry “Major Nelson” Hyrb back in May. Unless the PS3 version of the same game restricts transferring roster saves as well - and that may yet be the case - that day may have arrived. Friday the 13th may be very unlucky for Microsoft indeed - if this is their decision. If it’s EA’s, however, then many questions will need to be answered, and quickly - although, in that case, you can expect the blame to quickly be placed on the somewhat-faceless NCAA itself.

Since last year’s game didn’t discriminate when it came to rosters and user profiles, it seems possible that Microsoft’s newly-added strictures on file sharing may be responsible for the new limitation, but I would stress that this has not yet been confirmed by either Microsoft or Electronic Arts. I will attempt to contact both EA and Microsoft today (it’s 3:45 a.m. now), but with E3 in full swing (and damage control forthcoming), I wouldn’t expect an immediate response.

When it was revealed that NCAA Football 08 and Madden 08 were running at 60 frames per second on the Xbox 360 as opposed to 30 on the PlayStation 3, and an impressive demo released this week demonstrated the advantages of that capability, the 360 quickly became the platform of choice for discerning football gamers; an advantage that could soon dissipate as quickly as it coalesced if Microsoft’s security protocols are responsible for the change.

It remains to be seen what changes, if any, can be made to alleviate this issue. I’m sure that some… industrious individuals are working on it as we speak. But the real issue is: Why? If EA Sports changed their product’s functionality so severely, why wasn’t it mentioned? And if the Xbox 360 itself is to blame, why must the sports-gaming dolphins get caught up in the carelessly-cast tuna net Microsoft has woven for cheaters? Certainly, there’s a compromise that can be reached - something that doesn’t require abandoning the platform for the more open-ended PS3?

Thanks to exclusivity arrangements, if you want NCAA football in video-game form, you have only one place to turn: Electronic Arts - and if blocking roster sharing was by design, then EA’s pro-sports gamer “street cred” will take an enormous hit.

Lest this sound overstated, consider this: Peter Moore mentioned at Microsoft’s E3 press conference that the three biggest franchises in gaming were Grand Theft Auto, Madden and Halo - and the Xbox 360 was the only place for gamers to play them all. It’s a strong point, but in the case of Madden - and NCAA Football - there’s another salient point that shouldn’t be ignored: They don’t have to.
