It might just be me, but I have noticed the PSN is much faster after the update.

Downloading stuff from the PSN. I haven't run into any problems playing games other than the occasional lag on LBP and COD4Comment

Re: Playstation Network and Discussion Part Deux
Well, I bought, downloaded, installed, and began playing Rag Doll Kung Fu.
Let me begin by saying it is probably worth buying, even for the skeptics of no online play. This is some all out fun IMO, even for single player (though I think 4 person multiplayer is where it's at).
You start as a default character which you can customize (which I have yet to do), and everybody has the same moves, etc. So this isn't exactly Super Smash Brothers where players are unique, but it's all about how you use them. There are many hidden moves and combos that you can use with the Sixaxis features, and there are pickups that you can attain like ninja stars, Bo staffs and nunchucks, and you use the right-analog stick to perform moves with those, which can be cool to do combos against more than one opponent. You can pick up opponents and toss them around, which is hilarious (though I don't think you can grab them in mid-air). There is also a boost bar you can build up and refuel your health through a "meditation" process, though the controller action is tedious (turning it upside down) and you can get hit while this happens as well (which is actually a good thing). CPU opponents can do the same thing as well.
The game has a Little Big Planet feel, even through some of the controls. But jumping is different, as this game doesn't seem to have "momentum" like LBP does. For example, when you are at a standstill and jump to the right, you'll fly as far as you would if you were running to the right then jump. It's weird and small things like that are difficult to get used to, but it's okay. I am always thinking there is some sort of double-jump like SSB, but there isn't. So basically, you have to play this game like its own... no SSB guys can just jump in here and dominate, and it's definitely not just a button-masher either (though I can see people putting up a challenge like that if there are young kids playing the game). The only other issue was that control often felt "unresponsive," but for the time being I'm going to attribute that to my LCD HDTV with an 8 ms response time. Also, grabbing is tough because sometimes you want to grab the player and you'll pick up an object.
There are maybe 10 challenges in the game, and I am still on the first one. You basically last for the 6 (?) minutes fighting people without dying. Needless to say, I didn't last... but I put up a good enough score to unlock the next challenge. I'll tell you, it's the trophies that will keep me coming back to this game.
I already can't remember if there was vibration included or not, but if I can't remember, there probably wasn't.
Oh, and don't walk into this game thinking that you're flat out just going to own. There's definitely a learning curve to the opponents as they block many of the things you throw at them.
The only real negatives after 15 minutes of play I can see so far are:
- No online play
- No in-game music can be played off the HDD
- Only a limited number of challenges, though I have a feeling it has a decent amount of replayability
- Players don't have unique moves
- Controls have a bit of awkwardness, though I think it just takes getting used to
- When fighting multiple opponents, it seems the one that you're not fighting sometimes becomes idle. Though this isn't proven and it could just be because I'm only on the first challenge, so perhaps if I keep playing I'll find that they'll all go after me at once. Of course, when playing multiplayer this won't happen.
- No vibration?
Otherwise, this game is definitely worth $9.99!Last edited by Blzer; 04-09-2009, 09:22 PM.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Playstation Network and Discussion Part Deux
Oh wow, no wonder 23 was talking about showing some footage... I never realized this game has an upload to YouTube feature. This game is awesome!
And this feature is like the easiest thing you'll ever use in your life. I just fired up the game for the first time today, so I look a little rusty playing... but that's not the point. This video is for you guys:
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/P1Tvms9JdrA&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/P1Tvms9JdrA&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
More to come when I really get some good footage.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Playstation Network and Discussion Part Deux
Rag Doll Kung Fu is the sleeper hit of the PSN Downloadable games. The game is so fun, it's crazy. Blzer, I created a thread in the Non-Sports game forum also. I really hope that the multiplayer will be online eventually, but it is the perfect party game.Comment
