    Shacknews

Twisted Pixel Games, developers of The Maw, are today very proud to announce 'Splosion Man, a 2.5D action platformer with a terrifying eponymous hero.

We were pretty disappointed to receive the announcement for 'Splosion Man yesterday as we figured it was probably just another too-rad-to-be-true April Fools' joke. Nope.

Due on Xbox 360 as a Live Arcade download, the game offers the ability to 'splode yourself at will. "Any scientist he catches is 'sploded into chunks of ham and ribeyes, the smell of their destruction terrifying, but also a little succulent," wrote Twisted Pixel.

Packing support for up to four co-op players, either online or off, and online leaderboards, 'Splosion Man is due to arrive "shortly before the world is incinerated."

Be a part of the Xbox LIVE team meeting

Later today, we’re having one of our regularly scheduled team meetings with the entire Xbox LIVE team. We do this every so often and it goes something like this: the Xbox LIVE General Manager (Notwen) provide updates and members of the team will do demos of cool unreleased thing we’re working on.

The meeting is only open to members of the LIVE team, and while what we talk about and demo is stuff we can’t share publically yet, we do want to give you a chance to be a part of the meeting.

        Here is how:

Before, during and after the meeting, we’ll have a screen showing real time updates from twitter that are tagged with the twitter hashtag of #heyxboxlive. This big screen will be in front of the entire team, so you’ll have a attentive audience. Ever wish you could say something to the entire Xbox LIVE team? This is your chance. The meeting will be today between 3pm and 5p PT. (what time is that in your time zone?) I am posting this now, so you can start thinking of what you’d like to share with our team….but don’t post too early or we won’t see ‘em!

I’ll also post a reminder when we get closer to 3pm on my twitter page, and once the meeting kicks off you can watch the comments/suggestions etc. stream by here.

Thanks for being a part of our meeting.

          Lode Runner's Level Editor

Once you're in the editor, things can seem a bit overwhelming at first. That's thanks to the great number of options the development team at Tozai and Southend have included here. There are five different layers to work with, allowing you to edit everything from fore and background props, to game items and platforms, to items that only appear after all of the gold has been collected from a level.

Given the freedom of the level editor, it is easy to make a level that simply can't be completed. A few fail-safes have been included to counter that potential pitfall. The first is that you can quickly hop back and forth between a live test and the editor, allowing you to tweak small portions of the map as you see how they play. The second and more important catch is that the game will analyze your design when you try to register it as complete and let you know whether it is impossible or not. You can still save your progress and come back later, but you won't be able to post the unfinished level online.

After you're done creating a level or two, you can slap it in a share list and offer it up to others on Xbox Live. You'll get community points for sharing levels that people want to download a lot which will then be used to rank creators on a leaderboard. The hope is that this leaderboard will encourage creativity and help others find good levels easily.

Tozai has deliberately made this system as open as possible. You're free to download other people's creations, edit them to improve on the design, rename them and then post them up to the community once more. The whole process will be iterative, allowing players to do anything from starting from scratch to simply tweaking a level that already exists. And if you want to get really hardcore, you can create short playlists of your own levels that can be played through in succession by others as a little mini-journey entirely created by you.

              Banjo-Tooie Theme

What's interesting is the fourth icon under Latest Games. That's Joanna Dark from the original Perfect Dark. There's been rumors of a true sequel to Perfect Dark for the 360, so maybe we will see Perfect Dark for XBLA alongside the new game, like with Nuts and Bolts and the original Banjo-Kazooie last year. Of course it could always be Rare being evil again with their teasing.

Honda sponsors launch of Xbox Live Primetime

Honda is hoping that the chance to win a Honda Insight will be motivation enough to get some folks into Microsoft's Xbox Live Primetime channel, set to launch on May 15. The Japanese giant will be sponsoring the release of the Xbox 360's new online space through a "Play & Win" campaign, forcing participants stuck in queue in the waiting room to watch ads for the car before being thrust into an open game. In the end, the overall winner of "Play & Win" will be gifted a 2010 Honda Insight, allowing them to drive around and quietly judge everyone else that isn't a hybrid owner.
