    Wireless Controller Questions

    (1) On the ones that use regular batteries why is it so hard to get them out even when you press the "release gizmo"?
    (2) Does anyone use the charge station or dual charge station?
    (3) Where do you check your battery power on the XBox dashboard?
    (4) Any recommended 3rd party wireless controllers?

    Re: Wireless Controller Questions

(1)I don't remember... I haven't used regular batteries since the 2nd week of the 360's lifespan in November 05

(2)Naw... But thats only because I like the idea of the Play & Charge Kit better...

(3)Press the xbox guide button... and you'll see the battery meter (resembles those found on cell phones

(4)I don't even think 3rd parties make any wireless controllers for the 360... only wired... MS keeps a lock on the wireless technology they use (which is why I think the guitar hero guitars aren't wireless..)

the charge and play kit will save you money in the long run, and in my opinion, using batteries is wasting money.

Regardless, you can check your battery life by pressing the guide button. It will also tell you when you reach two bars left by annoying you endlessly by flashing the lights on the controller.

I use the dual charger and love it. Put it and 20 minutes later fully charged.

Dual charger and an extra battery pack or 2 will save you money in the long run. I still think the play and charge kit is pointless. People use a wireless controller because it's wireless. So why would I put a cord on my controller to charge the battery? Totally defeats the purpose of being wireless.

I never understood this logic and how people come to this conclusion... cell phones are considered wireless yet you still have to plug it in with a cord to recharge it's battery... the PS3 controller is wireless but you still have to plug in the usb cord to charge it...

            ...????

it doesn't magically become part of the controller and undetachable when you attach the play and charge kit to the controller for charging purposes

              Re: Wireless Controller Questions

I just bought a new battery for $11 and charge it by putting it in my plug and play and hooking it up to computer's USB port. I just leave it in overnight.

Not totally true. They make charging stands for cellphones and PS3 controllers. What I am saying is if one uses a cord to charge the 360 controller, why not just use a wired one and skip the hassle of getting the cord out and hooking it up when the battery is low. You don't see people plugging in a cordless phone to charge it. They put it on a dock. Much easier, no cords laying across the floor.

i disagree. I have the 360 charge cord connected to my pc ( equivalent of having a power cord connected to the outlet) and whenever the controller needs a charge, i just connect it, the cord is behind the desk and therefore doesnt intrude or anything.

my pocketpc phone is the same way, 3 different connections(usb to phone, power cord to phone, and of course car adapter , but i charge it using one of the supplied cords connected to the wall.

so i still dont see the difference, other than 2 or so seconds of placing something on a base and letting it go vs having to connect a device and its cable; but again, all it takes is a couple of additional seconds. I have a bluetooth headset ( jabra jx10) with a base, and its more of a pain to connect that to the base than the other cord supplied, which is just from the usb connection to the headset.

i guess the problem here is you are thinking that the cord is connected to the 360, which in alot of cases, is not. Or at least, not in my case.

uhh lol i was talking about cell phones, not cordless ones.. and i didn't know the PS3 controllers had a charging station

but ok i guess, i just don't see the big deal about plugging in the play and charge kit every 2 weeks while the system is off to charge it and then packing it away when you're done.

Well, that's your opinion but you are missing my point. Wasn't the main idea behind a wireless controller to be wireless? That is the selling point, no wires to get in the way, tripped over, bent up or broken. Just the idea of adding a wire to a wireless controller to charge the battery is ridiculous.

I like it so I can play my 360 100% of the day if I wanted. I never have to worry that my battery will die and I forgot to plug in the other one, I can just plug the controller into the 360 and play, otherwise it's just wireless.

I'm not bashing the play and charge kit for it's functionality, just the concept of using one boggles my mind. My nephew has one and it works great. Guess I'm just spoiled by the wireless by just swapping a battery pack when needed.

The thing is though, there is no wire to get in the way. The wire is at the other end of the room, sitting neatly next to printer, connected to my file server's usb port and neatly place behind a desk. I dont have it connected to the 360, so the cord is just like having a power cable to a cell phone. Idea is real simple; if i need to charge my cell phone, i plug it into the power cable. same deal with the 360 charge kit.

Or am i still not getting what you are trying to say?

Or perhaps is that you just feel a wireless device should not need to be recharged at all? I dont know of any wireless device that does not need to be recharged if it is using some sort of lithium-ion battery(or cant think of any at 7 in the morning). Or the base station vs cord differenece? If thats the case, the difference to me between a base station and connecting a cord is zilch. Only thing i see that a base station has going for it is that it's nice to look at?

Bah, whatever. We'll just agree to disagree. heh

He was basically confused by those that just play with his wireless controller connected to the 360. At least I think that's what he is saying.
