360 cooling question...........
My 360 has been running hot even with a cooling unit under it and I was wondering if I bought the right one for it. I appreciate all info on the one you think works better, the cooling unit you stand the xbox 360 on or the cooling fan you the stick on the back.Tags: None -

Re: 360 cooling question...........
I hate to break the news to ya but they ALL run hot no matter what cooling you use. They are a POS just waiting to break. The 360 was designed not to use front air venting so the only way to cool the machine is via the rear fans. That's why some of the 360 parts can hit 212 degrees F.
The only remedy to really cool the machine is either take off the covers and point a fan at the motherboard which voids the warranty or wait for the cooler chips later this year.....hopefully.
Another thing you could try is raising the 360 if it's in the horizontal position by using school size erasers on each corner. -

Re: 360 cooling question...........
Pretty much what rodster said. The Talismoon whisper fan is good, it replaces the stock fan but it will void your warranty. Another thing you can do is if you have a play-n-charge cord for your controller, plug it in before you shut off your console. This will keep the fans running for awhile even after your 360 has been shut off, helping get rid of the hot air thats still in the console.Comment

I don't have a cooler, but have my 360 sitting horizontally on an upside down black plastic crate from my college days so that there is plenty of venilation below it. It still gets hot, but not as hot as it was on a solid surface.Comment

Re: 360 cooling question...........
I think the only problem with that is the 360 is not in low power mode. The best way to cool down the unit is to enable "Auto Download" or whatever it's called.Pretty much what rodster said. Download a demo and shut off the 360 thereby putting it in low power and the rear fans will continue to work until the download is finished.Comment

Re: 360 cooling question...........
I wouldn't risk buying the Nyko Intercooler, it's what broke my 360. The connection between the power plugs is real sketchy, and just ends up hurting the cooling of the system.
If you're gonna buy one though, go with the fan stand.Comment

Re: 360 cooling question...........
They fixed that with the EX cooler, you can find them at Walmart. I have less issues with Nyko's Intercooler and more issues with Microsoft manufacturing a POS.Comment

I have the standing fan and it still gets too hot. I was wondering which of the two worked the best since I only bought the one you stand it up on vertically. I appreciate all the tips guys and really would appreciate any more info.Comment

Re: 360 cooling question...........
Whatever you do, do not follow the example of the young Einstein in this sad tale:

Dumb, dumb, dumb.
Apparently, a 14 year-old North Carolina boy was almost killed trying to keep his Xbox 360 from overheating. According to local news, the boy's mother found her son unconscious after he attempted to submerge the console in a pan of water. "When I left to go next door he was playing a game but when I got back he was laying on his back on the floor and unconscious," she said. The console, wrapped in plastic and tape, was still plugged in. The kid has read online that he could keep his 360 from over heating by cooling its power supply. By the time the ambulance showed up, the boy had regained consciousness. Thankfully, when the ambulance arrived, the boy had regained his senses. He was rushed to a nearby hospital and suffered small burns on his hand and foot. Kids remember: No matter what the internet says, electricity and water are NOT friends. They're not even on speaking terms.Comment
