I was considering it, but then i realized i barely type anything on the 360. so the question is, will i begin to use the ability to type more or will it sit there collecting dust?

Right now I use a regular keyboard to type. Until it is used for actual gameplay, i don't think I will get it. I'm sure that won't be for awhile if ever.

I am. I usually leave xbox.com running when I'm on Live so I can type and respond to messages, but I'd much rather use this. It will be good for rosters once college hoops is released as well.

Nope. I find that I don't use MSN IM on the 360. For xbox live messaging its easier just to voice message or voice chat.

Yes, you can use any USB keyboard.
