Cheap LCD Monitor to use with 360

    Requirements
    - < $200
    - Widescreen
    - VGA

The price range pretty much limits me to 19" monitors (i've been playing on a 20" SDTV so no biggie). Right now i'm looking at these monitors:

    I-Inc iF191DPB

    <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/VUnmGUTb_iA"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/VUnmGUTb_iA" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

    Hanns.G HW-191DPB

ATM it seems even these are a bit out of range as i'm strapped for $$$ and wouldn't be able to pick up NBA 2k8 if i also bought one. The first monitor is more expensive but has a mailinrebate, but at the same time I-inc is just repackaged Hanns.G monitors, like optiquest and viewsonic. Thus the I-Inc comes with 1 year warranty, the Hanns.G three.

I have a question regarding this also. If I buy a 22" widescreen monitor with the native resolution of 1680x1050, how would the 360 games look? What resolution does 360 games run in? Would a 19" monitor be better?

Can you really enjoy gaming on a 20 or 22 inch pc monitor?

lol, what do you think pc gamers have been using? 50 inch plasmas? LCD monitors are just fine.

Of course. The thing you have to remember is when you're playing games (or doing anything on a computer monitor), you're typically only inches away from the screen. So, it's not like you're sitting on a couch 6-10 ft away from a 20-inch screen... lol. You're basically right in front of it, so you can see all the details very clearly.

I prefer playing on a TV for the comfort of a couch and the 5.1 surround set-up, but there are definitely some nice things about playing on a monitor.

I have been kicking this same idea around for some time.

As my kids get older, I want to make a home theater in our back room. I don't have the need for a very large TV in our living area. We'd watch movies on the projector.

For gaming, I think I'd be fine with a nice size LCD that has excellent quality. I feel more comfortable being close to the picture.

I've read varying things about this while researching. While I'll likely be picking up a 19" (thus at 1440x900) if i were to pick up a 20" it would be at 1680x1050. The VGA cable doesn't support any of the typical widescreen monitor resolutions so you have three choices. Set the resolution on the 360's dashboard to 1360x768 and have your monitor scale to make it fit the screen, set the resolution to 1280x1024 and set the picture to Widescreen, or set the resolution to 1080p and have it scale down. That said, not all monitors allow for all the scaling. Seems like overall it can be sketchy if you don't want any of the picture getting cropped or letterboxed. Theres a couple petitions online requesting support for widescreen monitor resolutions.

Sounds like its time for an impulse purchase....

Yep, the resolutions don't match up perfectly but it doesn't bother me that much.

TeamXbox reviewed the 360 VGA HD AV: http://hardware.teamxbox.com/reviews...D-AV-Cable/p1/

The article gives some good info on picking the resolution and scaling.

Also, the writer suggests the DELL UltraSharp 2005FPW, which is now the 20075FPW and runs around $400.

What exactly happens? Is there cutoff on the screen?

you either get some games in letterbox, or get games mashed in, depending on the resolution your pick.

my lcd monitor has a standard resolution that is supported by the 360, so it's perfect. If you can find one that has a supported resolution by default, I'd do that.
