    360 cracking discs?

I think my 360 is cracking my game discs right around the center hole. My Oblivion disc became unplayable, so I had to get another one. Now Bioshock is cracking. I'm careful about taking them out of the cases, so it's not like I'm bending them or snapping them out of the case.

Anyone else ever have or heard about this before? My disc tray doesn't always open on the first try either, it seems to get stuck. There must be a problem with the tray and maybe that is causing the cracks? I have a Best Buy warrant, so I can just go get another one, I guess. It's too bad because I got this one in Jan 06 and have never had any RROD problems or anything. I'm worried I'll get a new one that will have bigger issues.

Also, does anyone know if all the new ones have HDMI outs on the back? That would be a nice thing about getting another one, I suppose.

I think the cracking has to do something with the disc drive sitting right over the CPU or something like that so the discs heats up a lot and than cools down and it causes it to crack.

    Hope that made sense.

      Re: 360 cracking discs?

the only games I've had crack are ones that I played often, played for hours at a time, and left in the drive when I was done. They heat up and cool down, so that occurring repeatedly is why it's cracking.

From what I've read, it's entirely possible because of the design or the console. Although, one would imagine more stories would be out about this happening. I haven't changed my gaming habits from the xbox or ps2, and yet I've had discs crack.

Hmm... I never leave discs in the tray when I'm not playing. I also haven't changed any habits or anything and this is the first time I've had discs crack. There are some games that I've played a lot of that are perfectly fine, too. I think it's just something weird going on with my tray. Like I said, it doesn't always open, sometimes only opens half-way, etc. My 360 also makes awful sounds whenever I quit a game and go to the dashboard. It literally sounds like stuff is breaking inside. It's always done this, though, and still works. I just don't want Bioshock to crack to the point of it being unplayable like Oblivion did.

I just returned mine to EB for a replacement and my new console has the HDMI port. However it did not come with an HDMI cable.

If you are looking for a console with HDMI built into it, just look on one of the sides of the box. It lists HDMI under one of the lists on the side of the box. Also, I think if you look at the back of the box, the Xbox 360's with HDMI should have a picture of Halo 3 and the GTA:IV logo.
