    Best Buy Product Replacement Plan

When I bought my 360 from Best Buy in January 2006, I paid the $40 for the 2-year replacement plan. Looks like I need to cash in on that plan. The 360 finally crapped out.

I was having some problems with the disc tray and it started cracking some of my discs, so I was planning on taking it back this weekend, anway. Then, last night I downloaded the dash update, my screen got all distorted, started shaking, and then the video just cut out all together. So now I get no video output from the 360, only audio.

Has anyone used Best Buy's plan before? How does it work? I initially bought a core because that was all they had at the time (I bought all the other stuff separately (the HD, wirless controller, etc.) Do I just bring back the actual console? Do I need the box? Will they give me new cables or do they just replace the actual console?

Will they give me a premium (I"m hoping so for the HDMI output) if they don't have any cores in stock?

You will just have to take the console in (although, I always take a controller back as well, might as well get a new one). If they don't have cores in stock, you'll get whatever you paid for the core back on a gift card. So say, $299 plus tax.

Crap. So it's possible I might leave there without a 360 if they don't have cores in stock? I was hoping they would just take the HD off the premium and give me one of those... I heard a lot of stores don't even bother with the cores anymore, so there's a pretty good chance they won't have any. I guess I could take the gift card and put it towards a premium but then I end up with things I don't need (like another HD). Hmmm....

You could try, I don't know how they would treat that.

They wouldn't budge on the store credit thing, so I had to pay the difference for a premium - $49. I figured I can turn around and try to sell the hard drive and break even. I got a premium with an HDMI output at least and a new disc drive. It's a lot quieter.

On my CPU, they didn't have it in stock anymore, so they gave me a better one. Didn't have to pay the difference or anyhting like that.

they've been more than accommodating whenever I return something with a replacement plan.

Same here...even on the 5th and 6th times. Best Buy's replacement plan is really one of the most fair plans you could get.

Re: Best Buy Product Replacement Plan

Need your guys advice on this. I know this is dishonest, but I'm thinking of taking back my core system (I have the Best Buy replacement plane) and getting an Elite.

First, I should say that there is nothing wrong with my core system now. I was just going to tell them it was broke. Do you think they will hook the system up in front of me to verify that it doesn't work? Also, will they let me trade the core in and then just pay the difference for the Elite?

first off, they don't check to see if it works in front of you. I never had to swap up, but I never had a core. Lots of stores aren't even carrying those anymore, so it's highly probable they'll let you pay the difference.

I don't think you'll have a problem. I know others have done that scam, and Best Buy has changed some of their policies because of it, but you should be ok. Even if it does work for them, just say it works here and there, then it doesn't again.

Good luck with that one, I tried it with the PSP @ Best Buy and it didn't work.

They have no problem with the 360's. Your PSP didn't have any issues, you just wanted to upgrade.

Very true................they probably are more lenient on the 360 returns.
