Black 360 Controller

I'm new to this whole 360 thing as I just bought one, so bear with me here...

Does the black controller work with the white play & charge kit? And I'd have to get the rechargeable battery pack in order to use a play & charge kit right?

My apologies, but I just need the clarification and I'm just too new to this to understand it. I don't want to go out and buy something without knowing that it'll work.

yeah, use my old white play and charge with my elite controller with no problems.
