-The main thing being is that you can play Online. That's where the 50 bucks is really going... to maintain and add servers. There is a reason why Live gets the praise that it does while Sony's "free" network gets ripped on.

-You get some demos, themes, and gamer pics that are only available at first for the Gold members.

***If you have NO DESIRE to play online with anyone, then there's really no use fro Gold Status.***

Put it this way: Silver is pretty much equivalent to a Core 360, whereas Gold is the Premium. Silver functions, but it's pretty useless.

It's pretty simple - do you want to play against people online? If your answer is "yes" then you need Gold. It's $50 a year, which breaks down to $4.16 a month.

If you have no interest in playing with other people online then Silver is all you need to have access to demos, videos, etc.

No difference in coste... but look online and in ads and such... u can usually find xbox live 1 year cards for 29.99 - 39.99

With Silver can you download demo's or betas? Playing COD4 beta and Halo 3 beta was worth the 50 bucks alone for me.

Get Gold, no question. It's just $60 or so for a year, and most games you don't even play that long.
