Problem with Xbox 360 Wireless Network Adapter

    Ok here's the deal:

I recently sent my 360 off to Microsoft for an unrelated issue. So i get the console back today and plug it up. The problem I had before seems to be fixed but now when I plug my wireless adapter into the console, it just has a steady red light! No green light like I had before....just a red light. I've unplugged the adapter numerous times and the same thing happens. I've turned off the console, plugged it in, turned it back on and its the same result.

Can anyone help me out with this?

Have you configured your console to accept the wireless connection? Perhaps something got reset in the repair process and you have to go back in and set up your wireless connection. Does your wireless connection need a WEP key to access it?

have you looked at your network settings? make sure the network settings are correct. might be that you got back a refurb 360 so you need to set it up again.

Yes my wireless does need a password but I can't remember if it's a WEP or WPA. How do I configure my console to accept the wireless connection?

I'm assuming that's the problem since I had to reinput the time and date on the console when I first booted it up. Microsoft might've sent me an entirely different console.

Well, some routers generate a .txt file that you can save somewhere on your PC's hard drive whenever you set up a security key. That'd be the first place I would look.

Other than that, you may just have to reset your router and generate a new key, and make sure you either write it down or print it out and save it.

Ok cool, I got what you're saying but what are the steps I should take to set up the wireless settings like I did when I first got my 360. I can't remember after all of this time since I had a launch 360, lol.

Ok I'll try that and see if it works. If not, that'll be some bufoonery!

It's under the System blade, then I think it's Network, then you find the Wireless Settings. Somewhere in there should be a place to input the key you need to access the connection.

Again, if you don't have the key, you're screwed and will have to generate a new one from your router.

Well, I remember the password so that shouldn't be a problem. I just didn't think that would cause the network adapter to show the red light. I thought if you just plugged it in, the light would come up green and you could just search for your network.

thats the thing though, the info might not be there, so you need to go to the settings blade and verify that the xbox has the info ( your router, password info, ip addresses if you are assigning this info manually, etc) necessary for the adapter to use when trying to get to your wireless router and then online.

So if my xbox doesn't have the info, i'll have to get the cd that came with the router and reconfigure it from the beginning?

                        no

your router is already set up. You need to enter the info that your 360 needs to get on your network. If your network is password protected ( as TJ pointed out) you need to enter the password in addition to selecting wep or wpa protected network, etc.

on your 360,Go to network settings and set up the network info as if this is a brand new 360 with a brand new adapter.
