xbox360 cracking disk's?
Has anyone had a problem with your 360 cracking the game disc? I was playing madden, finished a game and was about ready to start a new game when it says it was unreadable. I could hear the system "chugging" as it was trying to read the disc. I took it out and noticed cracks from the center outward. Problem with the console or maybe me not careful when i popped the disk out of its case? Dont understand why it would play fine for about 45 minutes though and then stop working.Tags: None -

Maybe the system could have been running hot?Has anyone had a problem with your 360 cracking the game disc? Happened to me with NCAA 08. I have read about this happening to many people. While there is no one thing for certain to blame it on I think it primarily has to do with how the disc is removed from the DVD holder. Ever since my copy of NCAA 08 got cracked once I remove a game from the DVD case I never put it back in. Instead it goes into CD slips.
Whatever you do though do not put a cracked disc back into your Xbox 360 and play it. With the speeds that the disc turns it could easily shatter and damage the inside of your console. If the disc is cracked you just need to accept that it is a goner.Comment

I don't want to blame it on cases though, as I never had this happen to games ever since they've been on disks. I do leave my games in the console when not playing, but again, I've done that since the playstation.
It's either the 360 getting too hot and weakening the disks over time, or MS is just using horrible disks...or a combo of both. I've had a couple games crack in the middle just like described earlier, and they have all been games I play a lot. Makes me think it's a 360 thing.
I wouldn't dare put it in my 360 again though, as the cracks will get worse for sure. I'd rather be out $60 than another 360.Last edited by bkfount; 12-06-2007, 08:26 PM.Comment

Re: xbox360 cracking disk's?
Yup, 360 cracked ncaa 08 months ago for me.

I treated the disc with utmost care. One day it wouldn't boot up and it wasn't until I looked at it very closely that I saw the disc had a small crack running from the inner ring of plastic out into the disc surface.
My theory is the disc is weakened by the heat, cool down, and pushing/pulling the disc on/off the case peg. I no longer push my discs on the case peg but put them in a sleeve.Comment

The only thing is, the clasps that hold discs in cases now, isnt the same as before. the clasps on 2K games is very tight, so it takes more force than it does to get other discs out of the case. I think that has a lot to do with it. Not discounting what you are saying about disc heat, but the cases are a huge part of it imo. Since I stopped using the cases, ive had zero issues.I don't want to blame it on cases though, as I never had this happen to games ever since they've been on disks. Actually I change my answer. I remember I stayed home from school for the Halo 3 Beta on the Crackdown disc. Well when I turned the game off and rebooted it, it wouldn't load. Sure enough I looked at the disc and had a deep scratch from the inside ring to the outside.PS4 Twitch: http://www.twitch.tv/candyman5os

Re: xbox360 cracking disk's?
well again, mine almost never saw my cases. I put forza 2 in the second I got home, and it stayed in my 360 until it cracked. I don't see how a case could have done it, unless it was cracked brand new. If so, that would be another issue with the way MS packs their games. But if this were a bigger problem, we'd hear about it. I'm guessing it's just a couple of bad disks. The only thing is, the clasps that hold discs in cases now, isnt the same as before. the clasps on 2K games is very tight, so it takes more force than it does to get other discs out of the case. Re: xbox360 cracking disk's?
This is the 3rd time I have had this happen to me and twice within 2 weeks.
First Allpro2k8 back in August, then NBA2k8, last weekend COD4.
My first thought is maybe the case and how I take them out who knows.. but I am now putting them in sleeves.. and hopefully that is the remedy.Comment
