            NO YOU CANNOT!

            i got this sad news when my 60gb ps3 went out in febuary. i called sony to ask them if i could take out my HDD and keep it before i sent it out to a 3rd party warranty company to fix it. they told me that once you take out a HDD from a ps3 it has to be re-formatted even if u put it back in the same ps3 u took it out of.

            so once u remove it from the ps3, everything will be gone. so you would have to back it up before u remove it if u want to keep the stuff u have on there.

            hope this helps

            EDIT: i now see u was just asking if u can use the HDD in another ps3. yes u can.

                That's not true. I've taken my 40 GB HD out when I tried to upgrade to a 120 GB that ended up not working. I put the 40 back in and all the files were still there and worked fine.

                    That is not true at all. 2 weeks ago I had to take the HDD out so I can open up the system and clean it out. I placed the HDD back in and was back to gaming.

                        so them bastards lied to me?! i could have kept my HDD and all my saved files. WTF SONY?!!!

                        i called 3 times and each representative told me the same thing. thanks for the truth GEARS and FPAC..

                        im pissed right now
