PS3 laser crapped out. Looks like I'll just be saving up for the PS4 now and playing PS Plus games. Pretty excited for Konami's Fox Engine.

I've been having some issues the past few days with my PS3. It doesn't turn off. I turn it off the same way I always have. Hit the PS button and select turn off system. It sounds like the PS3 is shutting down, but I end up with a black screen on my tv and the PS3 still on. I have to hold in the power button for it to finally shut off.

Now I'm getting the file system corrupted message when I turn it on. It gets to 46% on the restore an automatically restarts. I then get the corrupted message again and it does the same thing.

I've restarted it in safe mode, but it's now freezing during the restore default settings. Anyone have any info on how I can get my PS3 working again? I'd hate to have to buy a new system with the PS4 coming out later this year.

Edit: finally got it to do a complete restore after about 10 tries.

I've had nothing but problems ever since I downloaded that stupid 4.40 update Sony forced on us. My PS3(original fat model) was working fine before, but now some of my games are freezing at random points during play (NBA 2k11, GTA IV, Episodes from LC). I'm not the only one with problems, either - been seeing a lot of complaints at other sites.

These Sony tech guys are a joke. Don't tell me it's a hardware issue if my games weren't freezing up before the update. I'm royally ticked off. Sony better patch this ASAP.

Do you mean reformatting? Or resetting the system? It does, but if you have the info backed up you should be fine.

No, he means rebuilding the HDD database. It's a different thing.

It doesn't, but when my HDD went corrupt and it forced me to rebuild my database, all of my stuff was gone upon the next boot up. It had everything to do with the corrupt drive and nothing to do with rebuilding the database though.

It deletes custom albums and playlists, PSN messages, and maybe you have to reapply your theme, color, background, and font... but I don't think it really does anything else bad.

Hey fellas I need some help. I'm an xbox guy converting to ps3. I have a chance to get a Cecha01 for a relatively cheap price, but I've heard they the Cecha01 can get YLOD. I really don't want to be burned. So do you guys think I should just go with a more newer version of the ps3?

I have one of them that's still going strong and a super slim, imo I would go newer ..just saying....but if you can get it cheap, go for it.

My PS3 was freezing, as soon as I cut it on, and the rebuild database method didn't work for me, so I restored the PS3 system to default settings, and it was fixed.

I went to my download history and am now in the process of redownloading/installing all of my games and stuff. How do I access my saved points and stuff on the games again? I have PS Plus so my stuff was always being backed up (I think the PS3 screen says it saves it to cloud?).

I believe you use the saved game utility, it's towards the top of the games area of the XMB
