For example, can I simply buy a 360 USB cable that I can plug into the controller and a USB port on my PC? It would kind of be like turning the wireless controller into a wired controller, just by buying a cable.

Using 360 controller on PC
I know I can get a wireless receiver so I can use my 360 controller for PC games, but is there any other way to use a controller on a PC?

Re: Using 360 controller on PC
I'm not 100% on this but I think you can only used the factory wired 360 controller on a PC. Wireless will work as well with the wireless receiver. I'm thinking that I read somewhere that the USB charging cable setup with a wireless controller does not work on a PC..may be wrong though.I know I can get a wireless receiver so I can use my 360 controller for PC games, but is there any other way to use a controller on a PC?

Also, there's some ABCD drivers that you need to install for the 360 controller to work. I'm pretty sure Microsoft's default drivers do not work properly. But all of my "Sketchy" knowledge on this subject comes from
playing MVP05 on my PC with the 360 controller, so it may differ for other PC games.
Hope this helps you out someXBL Gamertag: hoos4974

Thanks guys.
Hmm, too bad the charge kit thing doesn't seem to work. That would be super convenient, although the wireless receiver isn't too expensive.
I'm sort of tempted just to try it though.Comment

Re: Using 360 controller on PC
from what I gather, it works better than it used to. I had one of their xbox 360 controllers for the PC, which is just a 360 wired controller with a driver disk for $5 more, back in late 05 or early 06. The drivers were garbage, and games didn't even recognize the two trigger buttons. Rumble didn't work either. I assume it's better now though, even the official drivers. Also, there's some ABCD drivers that you need to install for the 360 controller to work. Re: Using 360 controller on PC
It's still just as bad. Triggers are recognized as one axis, no rumble, garbage all around. Theres some homebrew drivers around but I havent found much success with them. Theres only about 10-15 official "Games for Windows" games that by name support the 360 controller through Xinput.from what I gather, it works better than it used to. You can also watch a plethora of videos on Youtube with detailed directions. Just do a search on Youtube for something like "Xbox 360 controller PC". That worked for me and brought up several pages of videos.XBL Gamertag: hoos4974

Re: Using 360 controller on PC
How far do you really need to sit from your laptop? I mean, really! Get the damn wired controller and call it good. It's wonderful. It's not like you'll be plugging in a PS3 controller with a 2 foot long cord. There's plenty of room to distance yourself from that 15" monitor.Comment

Re: Using 360 controller on PC
Well, the issue isn't the wire. I already have 2 wireless controllers. I'd rather buy a wireless receiver than a wired controller. It's cheaper.Comment

Re: Using 360 controller on PC
Bumping this. I installed the proper drivers for the wired 360 controller, but I can't get anything other than the flashing green light on the Xbox guide button. The installed Accessories Status assistance is garbage. Within the help guide it says:
When you connect a controller to your computer, it is assigned a specific quadrant that glows green to indicate the controller's number and position. Each subsequent controller (up to four) connected to your computer is assigned an additional quadrant.
To view your controller quadrant and battery status on the screen, press the Xbox Guide button.
Doesn't matter what I press. It's just flashing green.... laughing at me...... mocking me.Comment
