PS3 40GB with External HDI was wondering since the PS3 40GB model cannot read flash memory cards if its able to read my Western Digital Passport 80GB and my Western Digital Disk 500GB? I have been eyeing the 40GB model because backwards compatibility is not a big deal, I still have a PS2. So if anyone could clear this up for me it would be appriciated.Tags: None

Re: PS3 40GB with External HD

I have a WD Passport and a 40GB PS3 and it works like a charm. You can even use the same plug to attach the HD that you use for the controller.

My only gripe with the 40GB is that it only has two USB ports. When I bought it I didn't think anything of it, but when I bought Rock Band to play with the family, I am one USB port short. I can always get a USB hub but it would have been easier if it was already in my system.

Re: PS3 40GB with External HD

You must make sure you format the external HDD's not flashdrives and they must be formatted FAT32

Step 1: Plug your external hd up to pc and turn it on.
Step 2: go to start>my computer>and then find your external hd
Step 3: Right click on the external hd and find format.
Step 4: Once format has been selected change the drive to Fat32
Step 5: Format the drive as Fat32.
