Damn,i just picked up the PS3 but downloading demos and installing them takes forever,is this normal?Also besides updating the system do i need to format the hard drive?any info is apprciated thanks.

Yea it just takes a while. Sometimes the DL speeds fluctuate, but you have to go through the very annoying process of installing the games after they are DLed.

Besides firmware updates, yea there's nothing else whacky you really have to do.

also, even though the ps3 has built in wireless, it seems that its far slower than wired connections.

I agree, since I switched from wireless to wired I've found my downloads to be much faster.

DLs take a while, sure, but for files that are often in excess of 1,000 MB it seems to be reasonably fast - about 500 kbps. I don't find that particularly "slow" at all.
