    PS3 Question

Hey everyone...Just picked up a nice PS3 bundle, but I have a question.

I also have an XBox 360, HD Cable and only 2 HD inputs on my TV. I decided to buy an HD selector box. I also went ahead and purchased an optical audio cable for the PS3. My question is, that if I have the PS3 connected through the selector box for video, but the audio ran straight into the surround sound optical port from my PS3, will the audio work fine? Or since I am going through the selector box for video, will I only be able to use that for audio as well?

Common sense would say that I can go video through the selector, but audio straight to the surround sound, but this is partially new to me - so any help is appreciated.

    Re: PS3 Question

The audio is selectable like the video. I run a dvi video only cord to the tv while I run the audio to external speakers. Just go to the settings and adjust accordingly.

wait, I though you couldn't use the optical cable if your using the hdmi cable? If so can I just hook up a optical cabel from the PS3 to my TV? Also will it sound better or the same?

Are you sure your TV has optical IN? Many models have optical OUT,but won't pass 5.1 over that connection type.
HDMI and optical will sound the same, but if you have an HDMI-audio compatible receiver, then you can enjoy lossless sound from Blu-Ray movies by connecting HDMI from PS3 to receiver, and then to the TV.

As long as you select Optical in your PS3 audio settings it's fine. Yes your audio will sound MUCH better thru optical on a good SS 5.1 system than the TV speakers no matter what TV you have. HDMI will give you lossless audio thru the TV but that's like using a firehose to fill up your dog's water dish.
