    80010514

I'm pretty sure my PS3 just kicked the bucket. That's what that error is, right?

Hopefully this doesn't become a common problem.

Do you have a warranty? If anything you can still send it to Sony.

        Re: 80010514

I'm remembering the PS2's going through a death spell about a year to 2 year after launch. Reading a lot of forums with PS3 deaths over the last 2 weeks. I hope it doesn't start, but it's not sounding good.

To those having problems, this might help.

          <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/JhU4_Rm0GQU&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/JhU4_Rm0GQU&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

This has only been tested on the 40GB version.

            Re: 80010514

The fan test only works on the 40GB anyway.

EDIT - Psy, what system do you have? It seems it's 40GB and 80GB systems that are dying.

              Yeah, I've got the 80GB.

I'm on the phone with Sony now, we're arranging for a coffin to be sent. The PS3 is resting peacefully. It died far too young.

That's exactly why I got the 2 year replacement plan at BB. If this happens to me I'll just exchange it for a new one.

Anyone have any experience on how long this whole process takes (time it takes for the coffin to arrive, time for the new or fixed PS3 to be returned)? I'm reading all sorts of various answers reading other forums.

Took just over a week for me.

They don't fix it, they send you a brand new one.

That doesn't sound good if PS3's are kicking the bucket now.

Only thing I want to know is if this is just 40 and 80 GB versions. I know the 40 and 80's were built differently, with some cheaper parts, and a missing heat sink from the 20/60.

What can be done to keep the heat down? I noticed (before it died) mine seemed to be excessively warm to the touch.

Yes but the 40GB still runs cooler than the 20/60 because of the cooler chip set.

I don't know, I still don't think this is a wide spread problem as it is being made out to be.

Where did you keep it? Make sure it has plenty of ventilation and keep the fans dust free as possible.
