    XBox 360 HDMI Conversion

Just curious if anyone has bought this for the 360??? It got very high remarks in the latest OXM. Apparently it just plugs into the standard (launch) 360's and *BAM* - HDMI !!!

Wondering if it works as well as OXM says it does....hmmm

Probably not worth it if your television upscales to 1080p, it's probably not HDCP compliant so you still cannot upscale your DVDs either. Also one of the most important things about HDMI to me is the ability to carry audio and video on one cable, this looks like you will still need to use optical cables for audio. I would say save the money for games.

Thanks for your thoughts StiffArm. I was having some doubts about pulling the trigger on this actually. Will continue looking around on the web for some impressions though. My TV does'nt do 1080p, but If I could get comprable picture quality as what I get from my PS3 with HDMI then I may end up going for it. I can handle the separate sound.

I'm a complete noob when it comes all this HD stuff so

One thing to check Hoosier, before you pull the plug, is to compare the picture quality between identical games on your 360 and PS3...to see if the HDMI really is that much better. Rent GRAW2 or RB6 for PS3, get to an identical scene, and then switch back and forth to see if you notice a difference.

The only major difference between the two is the audio pass through and the copy protection, as some TVs can accept 1080p over component if available. Also, it's personal preference for visuals as some folks think component is sharper with more vivid colors and vice versa (see below).

Odds are the picture quality boost on PS3 is from games and Blu-rays tailor made for Sony's system.

Either way, I wouldn't trust a pass-through option. Your 360 might red ring [again?] and M$ might send an HDMI console back to you.
