Gametrailers caught with comparison videos

GameTrailers.com has become infamous for their comparison videos of multiplatform titles spread across the PlayStation 3 and XBOX 360, but they've seemed to decide to take it one step further. After the entire Devil May Cry 4 debacle that left a lot of gamers displeased on both sides of the spectrum, one would expect a similar situation from not taking place later on. They've recently released their side-by-side comparison of the latest demo, GRiD, produced by Codemasters. We've included the video below.



Now, what you just saw was a straight comparison between both formats, but it leaves you wondering as to why GameTrailers decided to pull this comparison video from their website. You might be able to find the answer out as to why in the video below.

The question we're trying to have answered much like a lot of other gamers are is, "How many other times has this occured?" In a world where gaming journalism has become heavily influenced by money, free swag, free games and press kits, we find ourselves disconnecting with the love we once had for honest-to-god unbiased journalism and replacing it with a tinted view of the dollar. In the end, you should leave it up to your own opinions on which you feel looks better by viewing credible sources of media. Do this by visiting the official homepages of games or by just checking the title out side-by-side on your own.

This barely relates, but it does bring to mind something similar -i.e., not trusting gametrailers: on that show they run (formerly "Game Head") on Spike, the host mentioned how their footage of the new Ghostbusters gameplay was "exclusive" and a "word premiere," that sort of language. I remebered how we had gameplay footage of that game here at OS months ago. WTF are they talking about?

I don't trust any of these sites. It's ridiculous how much money influences the opinions of sites like IGN or TeamXBox and it gets passed off as honest journalism. For videogames to be a multi-billion dollar industry, there's surprisingly little checks and balances in place. It's why you don't hear a peep out of the big sites when EA or Activision is making moves to get bigger. And gamers sit back/rationalize it and decide to swallow it (on the whole). Because these sites are all dependent on the access the game publishers give them and their advertising revenue, you won't see many dog-biting-the-hand-that-feeds-it situations. If the mainstream press took videogames seriously (Newsweek, Washington Post, etc.) I think there would be a chance for getting honest/straight information because they wouldn't be dependent on revenue from the game companies.

The portion of the video that was labeled as the 360 version has the PS3 Cross, Circle, Triangle, Square layout in the replay bar. Watch the clip the OP posted, it makes it quite clear.

Like when I was watching I just watched the graphics, and then it would switch to the writing.

but it if were some big conspiracy, wouldn't they have either edited the footage, or found some without PS3 specific controller buttons? It most likely got taken down because of its errors rather than a coverup.

yeah i agree, if they were trying to do a "this system is better" deal as suggested why not just do the boring-straight on crashes on the system they want to diss and the more "dynamic" ones on the system they want to promote as better?

I agree

If you're trying to be slick, you wouldn't let something like that slide. Gametrailers video editors are ace and wouldn't let something like that slide.
