Anyone Ever Restored Default Settings On PS3?

I've been having some issues with my PS3 lately and I contacted Sony. They suggested a few things and one of them was restoring default settings. Anyone tried this on their system and if so, did it help anything? Thanks.

    Restore Default Settings

During certain troubleshooting situations, it may be necessary to restore all of the PLAYSTATION 3 system settings back to their original "default" configuration.

From the XMB™ home menu, go to (Settings) > (System Settings) > [Restore Default Settings].

Once you select [Restore Default Settings], you will see a list of settings that will be restored. Scroll through them and press the button to restore the settings.

After the operation is complete, you will see the initial setup screen that appeared the first time you turned on the PLAYSTATION 3.
You will need to go through the initial setup process before you can use the PLAYSTATION 3.

    IMPORTANT

The Restore Default Settings feature will erase any previously saved settings and restore all of the following settings to the default:

    BD/DVD Settings
    Music Settings
    Chat Settings
    System Settings
    Date and Time Settings
    Accessory Settings
    Display Settings
    Sound Settings
    Security Settings
    Network Settings
    Internet Browser Settings
Also, do not confuse "Restore Default Settings" with the "Restore PS3 System" option (the next option down on the menu). The "Restore PS3 System" will not only restore the default settings, but it will also delete all hard disk content. (You will lose all saved content from your PS3 system's hard drive if you use "Restore PS3 System.)

Re: Anyone Ever Restored Default Settings On PS3?

If you have a newer PS3 there has been numerous counts of some problems and supposedly the latest firmware update (2.35) will address those issues.

I just want to clarify that this upcoming firmware update isn’t related to GTA IV. For those of you who may still have an issue playing the game on your PS3, we have identified a solution that should resolve the issue. You can contact SCEA Consumer Services for support — their contact info and hours of service, as well as more information on this issue, are available in our Knowledge Center (http://playstation.custhelp.com/).

I got my PS3 in January of 2007. Have any idea when the new firmware update (2.35) will be and what kind of problems are people having? My PS3 has been acting a little strange lately. Seems like there is a slowdown for a second or two at times when I'm playing and it's not online play. Also seems like the fan has gotten noisier since the last update. Don't know how that would be posssible but it definitely gets louder after about 5 minutes of play. I was thining of restoring the default settings to see if it changed anything but wasn't sure if I should or not. Thanks for your response.

Re: Anyone Ever Restored Default Settings On PS3?

I've had a problem with my 60 GB recently. I updated my PS3 last week to 2.35 and had no problems. I got back to my apartment at school earlier this week and put in GTA4 two days ago. I noticed there was a patch (1.01) to download so I did and read about it while it was downloading. This patch has nothing to do with actual gameplay itself and it for multiplayer. I fire up GTA4 with the new patch and now my audio is not sync with the video. It starts out barely, but noticeably, off when I start. After about 10 mins of gameplay, its unbearable. I called Rockstar, thinking it was the game, and they told me to try another while I was on the phone. I put in COD4 and I got no problem. I also played Assassain's Creed too and no audio problems either. I put in MLB 08 last night and, as luck may have it, I have an audio issue there. That one is worse than the GTA4 problem. As anyone else had this happen? I'm gonna call Sony and see if they recommend anything other than wiping the system.
