MS taking over the RPG market

    I'm shocked.

Sony has really fallen behind with the RPGs. The only one out now is Oblivion and the next one I see coming is FF in 2009... or later.

MS today announced several RPG titles today, one with Square Enix, Star Ocean which might be exclusive. Shocked.

MS is paying huge money to try to penetrate Japan but will it be worth it?

What the hell is Sony doing? First they lost exclusives and now they are altogether losing games.

Is Folklore for the PS3 not considered an Rpg?

Also, I think they got a port of enchanted arms.

Think Folklore was more a adventure type game with a little RPG.

360 has already had several real RPG titles. Sony better hope EA makes ME 2 on the PS3.

Re: MS taking over the RPG market

For RPG fans, the 360 is the slam dunk option.

I've played RPGs all my life (including Dungeons and Dragons!) and I don't think I've enjoyed RPGs this much in a long time. My playing time of a system usually correlates pretty well with the quality of RPGs. Mass Effect is the best game I've ever played. Lost Odyssey was the best JRPG I've played since FF VII.

The 360 is to RPGs what the PS2 was to RPGs in last gen. Regardless of how good FF XIII might be (I haven't liked a FF since FF IX), the 360 has a tremendous lead in RPGs. I saw this trend coming with the brilliance that was Knights of the Old Republic back on the Xbox; MS was already moving to establish itself in that market and they've followed through.

Now, will the Japanese buy it? Don't know. Microsoft has done absolutely everything to cater to that market. If they still don't buy into it, their loss. Europe is already a more relevant market than Japan. A lot of these Japanese publishers that Microsoft is courting are already looking to Western markets as the primary markets for their RPGs rather than Japan, and for justifiable reason. The PSP, Wii, and DS are the only relevant systems in Japan!

This all goes back to the arrogance that Sony was showing before the PS3 came out. They lost so much ground between PS2 & PS3. If they would have courted some of those companies, it would have seriously been killing the 360 out of the gate. My goodness how the systems flipped.
